Artykuł prezentuje rezultaty badań własnych, dotyczących stosunku wobec starości i ludzi starszych wśród osób w okresie późnej dorosłości oraz ich wnuków. W badaniu wzięło udział 100 osób z 50 rodzin (po 50 osób z pokoleń dziadków i wnuków). Wyniki badań wskazują, że pokolenia dziadków i wnuków nie różnią się pod względem posiadanego obrazu starości, natomiast reakcje w kontakcie z osobami starszymi są bardziej pozytywne w pokoleniu dziadków. W obu pokoleniach stosunek wobec starości zmienia się wraz z wiekiem, lecz zmiany te mają odmienny charakter. Ponadto można wnioskować, że zachodzi międzypokoleniowy przekaz rodzinny, ponieważ: (a) im bardziej negatywnie postrzegają starość dziadkowie, tym bardziej negatywnie widzą ją też wnukowie i tym mniej pozytywnie reagują oni w kontakcie z seniorami; (b) w im bardziej neutralny sposób myślą o starości dziadkowie, tym bardziej pozytywnie reagują w kontaktach z seniorami ich wnukowie.

The article presents results of the author’s research concerning the attitude to old age and the elderly in a group of seniors and their grandchildren. The study involved 100 people from 50 families (50 grandparents and 50 grandchildren). Research findings show that the generations of grandparents and grandchildren do not differ in terms of image of old age, while the reaction in contact with elderly people are more positive in the generation of grandparents. In both generations attitude towards old age varies with age, but these changes are different. Moreover, it may be concluded that intergenerational transmission occurs in the families, because: (a) the more negative image of old age grandparents present, the more negative is this image in grandchildren, and also the less positively they react in contact with seniors, (b) the more neutral is the grandparents’ image of old age, the more positive are their grandchildren’s reactions in contacts with elderly.
