Historyczny zasób WBP – Książnicy Kopernikańskiej, ze względu na jej rodowód, jest doskonałym źródłem do badań różnych aspektów dziejów książki, w tym kolekcjonerstwa, w dawnym Toruniu. Przykładem tego może być księgozbiór prywatny Krzysztofa Henryka Andrzeja Gereta (1686-1757), przybyłego do Torunia w 1713 r., od 1723 r. seniora duchowieństwa protestanckiego w mieście. Geret był teologiem-erudytą i właścicielem dużej biblioteki, uważanej za największy księgozbiór prywatny w Toruniu okresu staropolskiego. Zbiór ten uległ rozproszeniu w trakcie trzech aukcji przeprowadzonych w latach: 1764, 1765 i 1768. Na książki z tej kolekcji, rozpoznawalne dzięki ekslibrisowi lub podpisie właściciela, można dziś trafić w wielu polskich i zagranicznych bibliotekach, ale najwięcej, bo 514 tytułów w 163 woluminach, znajduje się właśnie w zbiorach Książnicy Kopernikańskiej. Jest to zaledwie niewielki fragment jego kolekcji, który nie może stanowić podstawy do charakterystyki treściowej biblioteki Gereta, ale umożliwia poznanie takich elementów jego kolekcjonerstwa, jak: sposoby gromadzenia biblioteki, stosunek do książki, zachowania czytelnicze pastora oraz losy kolekcji po jego śmierci.

The historical collection of the Copernicus Provincial Library constitutes a perfect source of research on various aspects of the history of the book, including book collecting, in the Toruń of yesteryear. One example may be the private library of Krzysztof Henryk Geret (1686-1757), who arrived in Toruń in 1713 and in 1723 became a senior clergyman of the Protestant Church there. Geret was a theologian-erudite and the owner of a library which was considered to be the biggest private book collection in Toruń in the Old Polish period. The collection was dispersed as a result of three auctions conducted in the years 1764, 1765 and 1768. The books from the collection, recognizable thanks to bookplates or the owner’s signature, can be found in many Polish and foreign libraries. Yet, most of the books – 514 titles included in 163 volumes - belong to the collections of the Copernicus Library. It is a minor fragment of his collection, which cannot constitute a basis for the description of the content of Geret’s library. Nevertheless, it provides an insight into such elements of his book collecting activity as how he went about collecting his books, his attitude to his books, his reading habits and the fate of his collection after his death.

Die historischen Bestände der Öffentlichen Woiwodschaftsbibliothek Kopernikus-Bücherei stellen auf Grund ihrer Entstehung eine hervorragende Quelle zur Erforschung von unterschiedlichen Aspekten der Buchgeschichte, darunter auch des Sammelwesens im alten Thorn, dar. Dies sieht man am Beispiel der privaten Buchsammlung von Christoph Heinrich Andreas Geret (1686-1757), der 1713 nach Thorn kam und dort 1723 zum Senior am Geistlichen Ministerium berufen wurde. Geret, Theologe und Gelehrter, besaß eine große Bibliothek, die für die größte private Büchersammlung in Thorn gehalten wurde. Diese Sammlung wurde infolge von drei Versteigerungen in den Jahren 1764, 1765 und 1768 zerstreut. Auf die Bücher aus der Sammlung kann man heute noch in vielen polnischen und ausländischen Bibliotheken stoßen. Erkennbar sind sie dank dem Exlibris oder der Unterschrift des ehemaligen Inhabers. Die meisten von den Büchern - insgesamt 514 Titel in 163 Bänden – befinden sich in den Beständen der Kopernikus-Bücherei. Da es sich lediglich um einen Bruchteil der ursprünglichen Sammlung handelt, können sie nicht als Grundlage für die Inhaltsanalyse Gerets Bibliothek dienen. An Hand der verfügbaren Fragmente seiner Büchersammlung können jedoch Aussagen zu solchen Elementen seiner Sammelkultur gemacht werden, wie Sammelweise, Verhältnis zum Buch, Leseverhalten des Pastors sowie das Schicksal seiner Sammlung nach dessen Tode.
