Poland as a well-developed country in the Central-Eastern Europe attracts more and more immigrants, mostly from Ukraine. Consequently, the profile of school pupils in Polish schools is currently changing.The aim of the article is to show that acculturation process of a child speaking a language similar to Polish and coming from a country close to Poland is very complex. Itssuccess depends on many factors (linguistic, psychological and social) and requires close cooperation of teachers, parents and specialists. The case of a boy from Ukraine, who began to attend a Polish school at the age of 11, is shown as an example of good practices.
