Posing new questions concerning the period of the Polish People’s Republic is the domain of what is called the politics of memory. It has been 25 years since the end of the Polish People’s Republic. There is a need to look at this period of the history of the Polish State and society from a long-time perspective. The new research questions should address the important processes that affected the shape of the society in the second half of the 20th century. The celebration of the Great Millennium Jubilee is an ideal subject matter for the politics of memory. Another field that necessitates a new research is the social activity of the citizens. What is necessary for an overall picture of the political life, is a study of the authority and the opposition. The picture of the agricultural reform of the 1940s that emerges from the history of historiography is full of contradictions. New questions concerning this reform need to be posed and confronted with the old literature. The process of industrialisation also needs a new perspective. The disputes on the interpretation of the processes of the Polish People’s Republic present an opportunity to sum up the history of the historiography of this period and inspire the future research.
