The article deals with the problem of technology of the conservation of a Romanesque frieze running through an upper girth of the north elevation of St Prokop's basilica at Trzebicza (in the Socialist Republic of Czechoslovakia). The frieze was built of sandstone tinged with green g la u conite. The first step in the conservation was cleansing the frieze of all additions from previous conservation work. Proper consolidation of the bare weathered surface of the sandstone and protection of the entire frieze was done by using solutions based on organic silicon commpounds. These compounds, manufactured in Czechoslovakia under the brand name of LU KOFIB, are resistant to chemical effects and solar radiation. Specific technology of the penetration of the product used for a stone surface unit was determined on the basis of measurements of absorbility of the sandstone surface. Impregnation was applied three times, while the most weathered parts of the relief were impregnated even five times. Already a month after the completion of conservation work, a positive result of the treatment was to be seen — originally weather-beaten surface of the frieze got consolidated and epoxides-based fillings got fully hardened.
