Przedstawiono przemiany w sieci sklepowej w latach 1998-2002. Zamieszczono dane dotyczące: sklepów i powierzchni sprzedażowej sklepów wg form własności; sklepów należących do zagranicznych firm wg województw; sklepów wg wielkości powierzchni sprzedażowej; zmian w sieci wielkopowierzchniowych obiektów handlowych; niektórych wskaźników charakteryzujących sieć sklepów; zmian w strukturze branżowej sklepów, a także dane na temat sklepów z artykułami żywnościowymi i nieżywnościowymi.

In her article, the author presents the changes occurred in the retailing network in Poland in 1998-2002, paying a particular attention to the role of foreign trade enterprises in the processes of change in the retailing network in Poland. An analysis of change in number of shops and their sales area, of the structure of shops by size and their branch pattern was carried out. The quality changes in the retailing network observed are mainly a dynamic development of large commercial establishments (hypermarkets, supermarkets), growth in sales area per 1000 inhabitants, increase in an average size of shop in Poland.
