This paper gives an overview over the development of recent German prose literature. Selected texts from 2000 to 2010 by Julia Franck, Jenny Erpenbeck, Antje Ravic Strubel and Julia Schoch are used to give a thematic outline of the work of female authors in this generation: The named authors have in common that they became popular at about the same time and that they grew up in the former GDR. The main thesis of the paper states that the texts of these remarkable authors are the beginning of the eagerly awaited 'Great Return' of narrative art in the German language.
