W nadchodzących dekadach województwo łódzkie spotka szereg waż- nych zmian demograficznych. Zgodnie z najnowszą wersją prognozy demograficz- nej GUS region łódzki odznaczać się będzie jednym z najwyższych ubytków liczby ludności i wysokim tempem starzenia się. Jednakże zdawać sobie należy sprawę z faktu, iż z podobnymi tendencjami stykać się będą również i inne polskie woje- wództwa. Celem niniejszego artykułu jest przedstawienie zachodzących w ostatnich latach zmian demograficznych oraz zmian tych spodziewanych w perspektywie roku 2035.

The voievodship (i.e. province) of Łódź is located in the central part of Poland. The aim of the article is to present the most important demographic trends observable in the past and in the future in the region. A specificity of population changes in the voievodship is related to long-term consequences of the past demographic processes, i.e. low fertility, high mortality and low migration attractiveness. The expected demographic position of the region will be worse in comparison to the today one due to sharp decrease in number of inhabitants, profound acceleration of the population ageing, and increase in dependency ratios.
