The year 1920 was a turning point for Grudziadz. With the retaking of the city, buildings that were part of German garrisons were taken over by the military authorities. Among the seized buildings was the Church of the Holy Spirit. The former Benedictine nuns’ convent church had been turned into a garrison temple by the Prussian authorities.
