Przedmiotem analizy są źródła dotyczące baletu Pan Twardowski Adolfa Sonnenfelda. Na podstawie zachowanego opisu spektaklu z 1898 r. oraz wyciągów fortepianowych wybranych scen baletowych sformułowano wnioski na temat dzieła warszawskiego kompozytora jako kolejnego wariantu popularnej polskiej legendy. Istotny kontekst badawczy stanowi refleksja nad muzyczną kulturą popularną drugiej połowy XIX w. oraz współczesnymi stylami odbioru.

The subject of the analysis consists in the sources concerning the ballet Pan Twardowski by Adolf Sonnenfeld. On the basis of the surviving description of the performance from 1898 and the piano excerpts of selected ballet scenes, conclusions were drawn about the Warsaw composer’s work as another variant of the popular Polish legend. The important research context is a reflection on the popular music culture of the second half of the 19th century and contemporary styles of reception
