In the aftermath of the political transformation of 1989 in Poland the unemployment problem became a great economic and social challenge. Given this serious dificulty affecting numerous Polish families, also the Catholic Church, having evaluated the negative moral impact of the phenomenon of unemployment, developed some efficient initiatives to help those who suffered this misfortune. The first of many tasks that the Church undertakes in this matter is to restore hope. Therefore, this article analyses the role of the Catholic Church in Poland and many of her pastoral ministries which have been offered in the recent years. There are some that still continue in benefit of the unemployed people and their families. The Church ministry is to bring help to those who find themselves in that difficult life situation.

Po przemianach ustrojowych roku 1989 w Polsce, wielkim wyzwaniem ekonomicznym i społecznym okazał się problem bezrobocia. W obliczu tej swoistej tragedii wielu polskich rodzin, Kościół katolicki w oparciu o negatywną ocenę moralną zjawiska bezrobocia, wypracował właściwe sobie mechanizmy pomocy osobom dotkniętym tym nieszczęściem. Pierwszym spośród wielu zadań, jakie podejmuje Kościół w tej sprawie jest przywracanie nadziei. Dlatego też niniejszy artykuł ma na celu ukazanie roli Kościoła katolickiego w Polsce oraz różnorakich form duszpasterstwa podejmowanych przez niego na przestrzeni ostatnich kilkunastu lat. Wiele z nich jest wciąż kontynuowane na rzecz osób bezrobotnych i ich rodzin, odpowiadając na potrzeby tych, którzy znaleźli się w tak trudnej sytuacji.
