Marxism as an ideological challenge to christian thought in the teaching of Joseph Ratzinger/Benedict XVI

Joseph Ratzinger/Benedict XVI interprets the danger that Marxism and Neo-Marxism pose to Christian thought. The German theologian points to three major threats: materialism, dominance of class conflict and challenge to individual freedom. In his response to these threats, Joseph Ratzinger proposes an integral concept of the human person that reflects the objective truth and exposes the reductionist trends in the ideology. According to this concept, development is directed towards peace, which, in essence, promotes a culture that respects the rights of the human person as God’s creature. Ensuring individual freedom is tantamount to protecting personal dignity. By taking into account the human nature and, at the same time, containing in itself the Divine revelation, Christianity is capable of exposing the illusory and fragmentary character of Marxism and Neo-Marxism in the world. The article relies on the teaching of Joseph Ratzinger/ Benedict XVI as its source material.

Joseph Ratzinger/Benedykt XVI dokonuje interpretacji zagrożenia wynikającego z marksizmu i neomarksizmu dla myśli chrześcijańskiej, a w efekcie dla integralnej koncepcji człowieka i świata. Niemiecki teolog zwraca uwagę na trzy znamienne zagrożenia tych ideologii: materializm, dominację konfliktu klasowego oraz kwestionowanie wolności jednostkowej. Odpowiadając na wskazane niebezpieczeństwa, Joseph Ratzinger postuluje integralną koncepcję człowieka, co odpowiada obiektywnej prawdzie, obnażającej redukcjonistyczne tendencje ideologii. Docelowym punktem rozwoju jest pokój, będący w istocie promowaniem kultury praw człowieka jako Bożego stworzenia. Zagwarantowanie wolności jednostkowej jest ochroną godności osobowej. Religia chrześcijańska, nawiązująca do natury człowieka, a równocześnie zawierająca Boskie objawienie, sprzyja ukazaniu iluzoryczności marksizmu i neomarksizmu w świecie. Materiałem źródłowym artykułu jest nauczanie Josepha Ratzingera/Benedykta XVI.
