Tematem niniejszej pracy jest trwająca od roku 1954 seria filmów o Godzilli, która ma ścisły związek z tym, co aktualnie miało miejsce w Japonii. Opisana jest geneza słynnego potwora i jego pierwotne znaczenie, aby następnie wskazać na zmiany, przez jakie przechodził w kolejnych dekadach. Postawiony został nacisk na zmieniający się stosunek Japonii do USA oraz na inne dominujące nastroje i lęki Japończyków. Celem pracy jest skontrastowanie – za pomocą filmów o Godzilli – potrzeb obu tych krajów i wskazanie na ich nieustanne przyciąganie i odpychanie się od siebie.

This article focuses on ongoing from 1954 year series of movies about Godzilla, which is associated with actual events going on in Japan. Article describes genesis of this famous monster and his primary meaning, to continue with changes, which it came through at the next decades. Emphasis has been placed at evolving japaneseamerican relation and at current fears and moods of japanese. Goal of this article is to contrast (with a help from Godzilla) needs of both of this countries and to indicate their constant attraction and repulsion from each other.
