The article describes the social life in the countryside of Congress (Kingdom of) Poland in the light of citations concerning Płock and nearby towns, e.g. Ciechanów, Raciąż, Mława, Kutno, published in the „Korespondent Płocki” in 1876-1888. At the time Płock used to be a centre of social and cultural entertainment. There were a theatre and a social club in the city, public parties took place, concerts and amateur performances were held, as well as balls and dancing soirees. Correspondents’ accounts reported on social events taking place outside the city. In the present article an analysis of selected aspects of social life has been carried out.

Życie towarzyskie na prowincji Królestwa Polskiego w świetle wzmianek, które ukazały się na łamach „Korespondenta Płockiego” w l. 1876-1888 i dotyczyły Płocka oraz okolicznych miejscowości, m.in. Ciechanowa, Raciąża, Mławy, Kutna. Płock był wówczas centrum rozrywek towarzyskich i kulturalnych. Działał tu teatr, resursa, odbywały się zabawy publiczne, koncerty, przedstawienia amatorskie, organizowano większe bale i wieczorki taneczne. O wydarzeniach towarzyskich, mających miejsce poza miastem, donosiły relacje korespondentów. W artykule dokonano analizy wybranych aspektów życia towarzyskiego.
