Preferencje ludności miejskiej dotyczące miejsca zamieszkania zmieniają się wraz ze zmianami charakteru aktywności ekonomicznej człowieka stanowiącej pochodną zaawansowania technicznego gospodarek. Niniejszy artykuł stanowi próbę przedstawienia wpływu postępu technicznego na preferencje ludności dotyczące wyboru miejsca zamieszkania w ramach miast przy uwzględnieniu podziału na trzy okresy historyczne. Jego celem jest odpowiedź na pytanie o najbardziej pożądane lokalizacje w miastach różnych grup społecznych w każdym z wyróżnionych okresów, a także ukazanie zmian tych preferencji w wyniku unowocześniania metod produkcji. Artykuł w swoim zamierzeniu stanowi punkt wyjścia do dyskusji na temat wartości określonych lokalizacji w ramach przestrzeni miejskiej w przyszłości przy uwzględnieniu dalszego rozwoju technologii telekomunikacyjnej i transportowej.

The paper focuses on the influence of technological progress on the location choices of city dwellers. The aim of this study was to reveal how the housing preferences of different social groups evolved over the centuries and what influenced changes in the perception of properties’ value in different historical periods. The paper is intended to initiate academic discussion about potential impact of current developments in the field of communication technology and transportation on the location choices of citizens.
