The memoirs in Z miłości do wiedzy (Out of Love to Knowledge) by Stanisław Urbańczyk, one of the most outstanding Polish linguists, are a perfect source of knowledge about the life of a Galician village of the early 20th century, they describe the laborious academic life of the Kraków scholar, people around him, and history of academic institutions. The paper presents how dialectisms function in Part I of the memoirs as an example of the author’s inspiration with the home environment, relations between his language and social origin. They include parenthetical statements, graphic metatextual elements, and metatextual operators.
