The article presents selected aspects of taxation in the Bible. An outline of the tax system in ancient Israel and in Roman times is presented. The sacral and secular character of taxation is presented. Differences in the understanding of modern and ancient tax are described. In the final part of the text opinions are presented about the impossibility of comparing completely different historical realities, while hypothesizing that the greatest objection of the inhabitants of ancient Palestine to the Polish tax system, with income tax as its element, would be its extension and the burden of taxation.

W artykule zaprezentowano wybrane aspekty opodatkowania wspomniane w Biblii. Przedstawiono zarys systemu podatkowego w czasach starożytnego Izraela, a także w czasach rzymskich. Omówiono charakter sakralny i świecki opodatkowania. Opisano różnice w rozumieniu współczesnym i starożytnym podatku. W końcowej części tekstu zaprezentowano poglądy o niemożności porównania całkowicie różnych realiów historycznych, a jednocześnie postawiono hipotezę, że największym zastrzeżeniem mieszkańców starożytnej Palestyny wobec polskiego systemu podatkowego, z podatkiem dochodowym jako jego elementem, byłoby jego rozbudowanie i ciężar opodatkowania.
