The issue’s importance prompted the article’s author to undertake research aimed at identifying the essence of environmental, social, and sustainable development aspects and the ESG investment perception. The article is the result of an original exploratory empirical study and fills a research gap in the perception of ESG by students at Polish economic universities. The article presents the concept of ESG (Environmental, Social, and Corporate Governance) investing, which has gained popularity among investors all over the world over the last few decades. ESG has evolved from the concept of sustainable development and combines the implementation of environmental goals with social values and sustainable development. In the face of the climate crisis and actions taken by members of global organizations for sustainable development along with further regulation of the sustainable investment market, there is a noticeable increase in interest in this type of investment. The results of the empirical study presented indicates that students at economic universities in Poland are aware of the essence of ESG, with the most important aspects for them being the environment and social responsibility. In addition, they declare their willingness to invest in a sustainable manner (resignation from a part of the profit compared to the general stock exchange index or obtaining a result at the index level). Due to the research’s exploratory nature, it should be extended in respondent scope and repeated therein filling a research gap. The foreign research cited shows the growth of a new generation, which will probably shape investment reality and have a real impact on financial markets, ones to be additionally stimulated by regulators. Changes in the European market are already visible in the form of the increasing number of sustainable investment funds.

Duże znaczenie problematyki inwestycji ESG (Environmental, Social, and Corporate Governance) skłoniło autorkę artykułu do podjęcia badań zmierzających do określenia znaczenia czynników ESG: środowiskowego, społecznego i związanego ze zrównoważonym rozwojem oraz percepcji inwestycji ESG. Artykuł jest efektem oryginalnego badania empirycznego o charakterze eksploracyjnym i uzupełnia lukę badawczą dla Polski, jaką jest poziom wiedzy o ESG i ocena inwestycji uwzględniających te czynniki przez studentów uczelni ekonomicznej. W artykule przedstawiono koncepcję inwestowania ESG, która w ciągu ostatnich kilku dekad zyskała na popularności wśród inwestorów na całym świecie. ESG wyewoluowało z koncepcji zrównoważonego rozwoju; łączy w sobie realizację celów środowiskowych z wartościami społecznymi oraz zrównoważonego rozwoju. W obliczu kryzysu klimatycznego i podejmowanych działań przez członków organizacji światowych na rzecz zrównoważonego rozwoju i uregulowania rynku zrównoważonych inwestycji zauważalny jest wzrost zainteresowania tego typu inwestycjami. Wyniki przedstawionego w artykule badania wskazały, że studenci uczelni ekonomicznej w Polsce wiedzą, czym jest ESG, a najważniejszymi czynnikami są dla nich środowisko i społeczna odpowiedzialność. Ponadto deklarują oni chęć inwestowania w sposób zrównoważony (rezygnacja z części zysku w porównaniu z ogólnym wskaźnikiem giełdowym lub uzyskanie wyniku na poziomie wskaźnika). Z uwagi na charakter eksploracyjny badania powinno ono zostać rozszerzone i powtórzone na respondentach z Polski, aby zapełnić lukę badawczą. Analizując przytoczone w artykule badania zagraniczne, można powiedzieć, że wraz z nowym pokoleniem nadchodzi zmiana podejścia do inwestycji, co wpłynie na cały rynek finansowy, a będą to dodatkowo wspierać nowe regulacje. Zmiany na rynku europejskim już są widoczne – wzrasta liczba zrównoważonych funduszy inwestycyjnych, a w szczególności funduszy emerytalnych.
