Presented paper contains the results of research on relationships between pupils occurring in visual perception problems and difficulties in acquiring reading and writing. In study, as exemplifications to illustrate the assessment of the level of visual perception in groups of students, there were selected those categories, whose verification is important, ie:mapping of simple shapes and mapping of complex shapes. Discussed further test results obtained from preliminary tests carried out to identify the groups involved in the equivalent continuing educational experiment. Based on the results obtained in this preliminary study it was found that the level of visual perception of pupils tested is located exclusively in the standard age for the mapping of simple figures. The level of visual perception of pupilsfrom the study group who started their education is reduced in relation to age in 62.5% of surveyed students - the result of complex tasks for the figures. Conclusions from the study raises at least two practical implications: 1. level of visual perception changes with age pupils, 2. there is a need to stimulate visual perception skills through using of varied methods at the beginning of elementary education.
