The article presents selected aspects of the function the title fulfills in revealing the sub-texts in a literary work on the example of the analysis of the collection of poems by Lubow Turbina, a Russian contemporary poet which was published in Moscow in 2002. The work makes of so far unpublished historio-literary materials concerning the poet’s work, e.g. Her letters, biographic information and author’s comments on the creation of particular titles of her poems and separate cycles. The analysis of work titles allows for drawing a more general conclusion as the titles of poems, cycles and whole collection are in tight relationship, not only on the level of surface meanings but also on the level of subtexts hidden in them. The title of the whole collection of poems by Turbina shows the most general overt meaning and the most important subtext which is the key to understanding the real meanings of particular poems and subtexts hidden in them. It is a new treatment if the text title which has not been examined so far within the scope of the text theory.
