We will find many studies on the Piarist Church of the Transfiguration in Krakow in historical literature. Unfortunately, the church crypt and the catacombs surrounding it are mentioned only occasionally, and from the historical point of view, they are a very interesting and valuable object. Numerous sources preserved will help to get to know its history and the changes which took place in the decor. The sources include – as interesting archive records, which described the subject extensively, tried to show – the 19th-century inventories of the church and college of the Piarists in Krakow, stored in the records of the Polish Province Archive of this Order. It should be mentioned that the inventory lists made from 1870 will be particularly valuable, as they contain more or less extensive historical introductions, without which the history of the crypt and catacombs would be wrapped in mystery to a great degree.
