Social support in the assessment of families of child with severe intellectual disability

The article presents a selected part of the author's extensive research on the upbringing problems associated with raising children with severe intellectual disabilities. A qualitative analysis of the empirical material collected by the author deals with the issues related to the difficulties encountered by parents of children who have been diagnosed with severe intellectual disability. The aim of the study is to show a subjective assessment of the obtained and expected support of parents of children with severe disabilities. Parents indicate in their relations the need for institutional support. The instructor in the first months after diagnosis and help in childcare. In the first phase of adaptation to the disability of their own child, they speak of a lack of support from specialists, especially doctors and nurses. There is also a lack of help from psychologists and educators. Parents praise mainly the support of the spouse and family of origin and other parents met in the corridors of hospitals and specialized facilities who have already dealt with the birth of a child with severe disability. Due to the small number of studies available in the literature on the subject of families with children with severe disabilities, it is worth undertaking further research in the presented area.

Artykuł prezentuje wybraną część szeroko zakrojonych badań autorki na temat problemów wychowania związanych z wychowaniem dzieci z głęboką niepełnosprawnością intelektualną. Analiza jakościowa zebranego przez autorkę materiału empirycznego traktuje na temat problematyki dotyczącej trudności z jakimi spotykają się rodzice dzieci, u których zdiagnozowano głęboką niepełnosprawność intelektualną. Celem opracowania jest ukazanie subiektywnej oceny uzyskiwanego i oczekiwanego wsparcia rodziców dzieci z głęboką niepełnosprawnością. Rodzice w swoich relacjach wskazują na potrzebę wsparcia instytucjonalnego. Instruktarzu w pierwszych miesiącach po diagnozie oraz pomocy w opiece na dzieckiem. W pierwszej fazie adaptacji do niepełnosprawności własnego dziecka mówią o braku wsparcia ze strony specjalistów szczególnie lekarzy i pielęgniarek. Brakuje również pomocy ze strony psychologów oraz pedagogów. Rodzice chwalą głównie wsparcie ze strony współmałżonka i rodziny pochodzenia oraz innych rodziców spotkanych na korytarzach szpitali oraz placówek specjalistycznych, którzy uporali się  już z faktem narodzin dziecka z głęboką niepełnosprawnością. Ze względu na małą liczbę dostępnych w literaturze przedmiotu badań, traktujących na temat rodzin z dziećmi z głęboką niepełnosprawnością, warto podejmować dalsze badania w przedstawionym obszarze.
