Luke 19, 45f is one of many examples among the New Testament texts where the literary efforts of its author are very obvious. Analysing step by step both the literary context of the pericope and the text itself one can easily spot elements of a rhetoric persuasion behind it. Luke has not only condensed his narrative at this very place to the possible minimum, but he also took care of the way of presenting Jesus in a violent scene. He did so in order to help his reader to understand that Jesus is not a violent man, but a peaceful king coming to every one to save him/her. Few examples of Hellenistic literature and some glimpses of the literary theory of the ancient authors have proved to be helpful in understanding the nature of the studied pericope.
