Boiotia During the Persian Wars: Attitude of the Boiotian Poleis Towards Xerxes' Invasion in the Context of Creating Boiotian Federalism

Languages of publication

Abstracts

EN
Greek victory against Persia became an end of the first stage of the process of creating Boiotian federalism. Coming of the Xerxes' army in 480 as an ally of ruling faction in Thebes caused (or showed) internal dispute among Boiotians (alike between poleis and inside them) - we could observe in this time not only the clash between Boiotians and their Greek rivals (Athens, Sparta), but also between Boiotians themselves. Furthermore, the analysis of the events of 480-479 B.C. show us, that the process of federalization in Boiotia reached more advanced level than temporary military alliances.
