This article is a presentation of methods and tools to explore the ethnic composition of Ptolemaic Egypt. Ethnicity may be indicated on the basis of self-identification, onomastics or religious practices. Valuable insight into ethnic structure of the Ptolemaic monarchy is offered especially by the preserved material from the Fayum Oasis.
