The authors of a contribution in dealing with prejudice and negative images of older people and symptom discrimination against older person or a group of elders. We are talking about ageism thus, social prejudice against age. These are the statements and positions without a true foundation, but the appearance that they are at the core of truth. Some manifestations of discrimination are evident in some unspoken subtext. In practice, we often encounter ageism as age discrimination against individuals or groups of older people, for example, advertisements offering jobs. Generation 55+ is not only healthier than we think, but to live for a longer active life than previous generations, are far more involved in other activities than just gardening, fishing and baking cookies and cakes. Seniors begin also other careers, leading companies devoted to artistic activities, traveling, attending educational courses, schools and transmit their profession and experience to others. To give people a sense of well being and reinforce positive attitudes in society towards aging and older people is essential participation in social, economic, cultural and voluntary activities, responsible approach to their own life and interest in the development of society. The main ethical principles are respect for human uniqueness, while recognizing equality between people, respect for the dignity of the older person, and respect for its independence, the right to self-determination, the right to privacy and personal choice. It is important to promote, strengthen and protect the family as the basic cell of society, in which there is naturally intergenerational solidarity, and respect for the elderly. The program aims to create conditions for full and active life of seniors, eliminate the causes of the inadmissible restrictions on fundamental rights and freedoms for reasons of age and social status, combat discrimination and social exclusion of the elderly, strengthening intergenerational solidarity, self-reliance, recognizing the contribution of seniors to family and society, promote understanding , tolerance and solidarity.

Authors in this article deal with the ethical aspects of nursing care for acute conditions from the perspective of ethical and legal standards. Today's time already think about this problem through various schemes, regulations, standards and codes. One of the main subjects that are concerned by ethics is nursing. Here, thanks to everyday work with peole, must everything work for the benefit of morality. Code of Ethics sets and modifies certain rules in spe- cific fields. They determine or recommend certain patterns of behaviour. For nurses indicate the direction the International Council of Nurses. Here it is described that the nurse has a duty to care for the health, alleviate suffering, prevent disease and restore health. Emergency medicine is in these modern times pushing the boundaries of therapy. From this point of view implies not only respect to the rights of critically ill patient and their implementation in intensive care. This is happening despite the efforts and need for constant professionalism and conditions of available methods and procedures. Provi- sion of acute care medicine is today very complex.

Authors focus on the importance of counseling centers in health protection and in promotion and development of public health in the Slovak Republic. Health is not only one of the most important rights of every citizen, but it also an obligation to take care of it. Chronic diseases can be prevented by adopting the principles of good nutrition, sufficient physical activity and avoiding of smoking, alcohol and stress. Level of control of major risk factors, especially of hypertension, should be increased. Also the motivation for patients to eliminate their risk factors through the instruments of state policy adequate education and the availability of better quality health care should be improved. Health counseling centers are designed for healthy people who are interested in the quantification of selected health status indicators related to cardiovascular disease, based on which is assessed the risk of cardiovascular diseases.

The authors point out that tuberculosis is the oldest infectious killer of humans and today it is such a serious threat to health that the World Health Organization (WHO) equates it to a time bomb. The most common source of infection by mycobacteria tuberculosis to a man is a sick person. Epidemiologically greatest danger is sick person with untreated decay pulmonary tuberculosis whose sputum may spread billions of tuberculosis bacilli every day. The overall situation in the incidence of tuberculosis (TB) in Slovakia is generally favorable, although in the eastern parts of Slovakia incidence is growing rapidly. Slovakia has compared with all Europe small to moderate incidence of this disease and its incidence has downward trend. East Slovakia so far has hot won combat this disease yet. It is therefore necessary to continue effective intervention and prevention to combat the spread of this disease.

Authors of this article describe the history of hospice care and community nursing. They define hospice nursing care according to the criteria of the World Organization of Home and Hospice Care. They point to the importance and role of community nursing in that area. Further they analyze the difficulties of hospice nursing care. The conclusion is based on the rights of dying patients, where the main goal of palliative care is to maintain the patient’s physical and psychological well-being, pain-free state and dignified and peaceful death.
