The Catholic Church, wanting to effectively realize its saving mission, needs reflection that will help adapt methods and forms of pastoral activity to the circumstances of the place and time in which it operates. Pastoral theology responds to this demand by undertaking a space of interdisciplinary research on the current time of the Church's existence. On theological grounds, it is necessary to develop pastoral sociology, whose main goal is to collect and systematize knowledge of general sociology useful in pastoral care and its specific varieties, especially the sociology of religion and sociology of Catholicism. It allows the application of sociological knowledge to a specific area of research regarding pastoral activity and its theological interpretation. Pastoral sociology, however, is not merely interpretative. It also claims the right to use sociological knowledge in establishing norms and principles that will serve the effective development of pastoral activity.

Kościół katolicki, chcąc skutecznie realizować swoją zbawczą misję, potrzebuje refleksji, która pomoże dostosować metody i formy działalności duszpasterskiej do okoliczności, miejsca i czasu, w którym funkcjonuje. Teologia pastoralna odpowiada na to zapotrzebowanie, podejmując przestrzeń interdyscyplinarnych badań nad aktualnym czasem istnienia Kościoła. Na gruncie teologicznym konieczne jest rozwijanie socjologii pastoralnej, której głównym celem jest zbieranie i systematyzowanie przydatnej w duszpasterstwie wiedzy z zakresu socjologii ogólnej i jej szczegółowych odmian, zwłaszcza socjologii religii i socjologii katolicyzmu. Pozwala ona na zastosowanie wiedzy socjologicznej do konkretnego obszaru badań dotyczących działalności duszpasterskiej i jej interpretacji teologicznej. Socjologia pastoralna nie ma jednak charakteru jedynie interpretacyjnego. Rości sobie także prawo do wykorzystywania wiedzy socjologicznej przy ustalaniu norm i zasad, które będą służyły skutecznemu rozwojowi działalności duszpasterskiej.

In his letter Novo millenio ineunte (2001) Pope John Paul II encouraged the Church to act in such a way that “the plan [...] found in the Gospel and in the living Tradition was refl ected in the pastoral instructions adjusted to every community”(29). On the other hand, the Directory for the pastoral ministry of bishops, Apostolorum Succesores (2004) calls for proper organization of the pastoral activity in the diocese, according to the „pastoral plan or plan which must be prepared on the formerly made analysis of the living conditions of the people so that the pastoral activity could be increasingly more eff ective” (AS 165). This document includes also the neccesity of establishing the plans of initiatives connected with the pastoral care on the level of parishes along with ways of implementing them (AS 212). The purpose of this article is to present the pastoral planning of the Church in Poland on the basis of the Polish national pastoral plan implemented in 2013–2017 and entitled Through Christ, With Christ, In Christ. Through Faith And Baptism To-wards Testimony. In September 2017 the authors made an internet survey among the Polish parish priests, asking them to evaluate the essence of this plan, along with the way it has been prepared and implemented. The article presents selected results of this research, preceded by setting out the theological basis of pastoral planning, and closing with formulated conclusions and theological postulates.

Jan Paweł II w liście Novo millenio ineunte (2001) zachęcał Kościół, aby „program zawarty w Ewangelii i w żywej Tradycji […] znalazł wyraz we wskazaniach duszpasterskich dosto sowanych do sytuacji każdej wspólnoty” (29). Z kolei Dyrektorium o pasterskiej posłudze biskupów Apostolorum Succesores (2004) apeluje, aby działalność apostolska w diecezji była odpowiednio zorganizowana, zgodnie „z programem czy planem duszpasterskim, którego opracowanie domaga się uprzedniej analizy warunków socjalnych w których żyją wierni, tak aby działalność duszpasterska była coraz bardziej skuteczna” (AS 165). Dokument zauważa także konieczność opracowania na poziomie parafi alnym programu inicjatyw związanych z opieką duszpasterską, który określi sposoby ich realizacji (AS 212). Celem artykułu jest pokazanie tego, jak wygląda planowanie duszpasterskie Kościoła w Polsce, na przykładzie realizowanego w latach 2013–2017 ogólnopolskiego programu duszpasterskiego Przez Chrystusa, z Chrystusem, w Chrystusie. Przez wiarę i chrzest do świadectwa (2013–2107). Autorzy artykułu, wykorzystując ankietę internetową (online survey), przeprowadzili we wrześniu 2017 roku badania wśród polskich proboszczów, prosząc ich o ocenę istoty, sposobu przygotowania, treści, propagowania oraz realizacji wspomnianego programu duszpasterskiego. W swoim artykule przedstawiają oni wybrane wyniki badań, poprzedzając je ukazaniem teologicznychpodstaw planowania duszpasterskiego, a kończąc sformułowaniem wniosków i postulatów pastoralnych.

The debates related to the understanding of pastoral theology are being held continuously. The Second Vatican Council has exceptionally contributed to this development, since its pastoral character led to offering prospects for setting new goals and for designing new style and methods of research. Therefore it is worth triggering off a reflection on the method of applying pastoral theology. It is of specific character, since it draws from two sources – both theological and non-theological. The authors of this article have been inspired by the document issued by the International Theological Commission Theology today: Perspectives, Principles and Criteria (2012), which emphasizes the fact that the practical theology has greatly profited from being combined with sociology, psychology and pedagogy (No. 81). Therefore, they decided to attempt to specify the relationship between pastoral theology and these sciences. They ask whether pastoral psychology, pedagogy and sociology are sub-disciplines of pastoral theology, sub-fields of non-theological sciences or whether they are interdisciplinary sciences of theoretical and practical character, whose achievements are exploited in the process of creating theological models of the pastoral activity, comprising also the paths for it. Carrying out such considerations, the authors remind the essence and goals of pastoral theology, they stress its nature, which is both prescriptive and practical, presenting at the same time its methods. Furthermore, they discuss the specifics of practicing interdisciplinary pastoral theology, concentrating on the non-theological fields. Finally, they propose some theological suggestions, stipulating explicitly that they are not of the conclusive character and they are just supposed to initiate a substantive discussion aiming at formulating new solutions.

Dyskusja nad rozumieniem teologii pastoralnej oraz jej statusem metodologicznym trwa już od wielu lat. Do jej rozwoju przyczynił się także II Sobór Watykański, który zaoferował nowe perspektywy jej rozwoju, nakreślił odnowione cele i sugerował odmienny styl i metody badań. Dlatego zagadnienie statusu metodologicznego teologii pastoralnej jest zagadnieniem aktualnym także dziś. Jego specyfikę wyznacza odwoływanie się w badaniach pastoralnych zarówno do źródeł teologicznych jak i pozateologicznych. Autorzy artykułu podejmują próbę określenia relacji teologii pastoralnej do jej nauk pomocniczych, próbując zarazem ukazać istotę psychologii pastoralnej, pedagogiki pastoralnej i socjologii pastoralnej. Opisują specyfikę interdyscyplinarnego uprawiania teologii pastoralnej, koncentrując się dziedzinach pozateologicznych. Proponują także pewne sugestie metodologiczne, które mają być punktem wyjścia do merytorycznej dyskusji i zaproponowania nowych rozwiązań.
