In the article, the author attempts to measure the changing effectiveness of learning in different-sized classes in Poland. For this purpose, he uses models for panel data. The application of panel models for measuring effectiveness was launched by M. Aitkins and N. Longford in 1986. The author also introduces the concept of unevenness of teaching effectiveness. In the second part of the article he applies the data to the proper models and draws conclusions from the obtained results.

The author of the article is focusing on the explanation how productivities of the process of the education are being exchanged at the maximization of the so-called model of the profit of the education. This model was introduced and described by Bosworth and Caliendo (2007). The fact that it is taking into consideration the satisfaction of the teacher from lecturing a chosen group pupils is an innovative part of this model. The majority of the article is relying on six theorems presented by Bosworth and Caliendo and on proving two new theorems (one of which is an extension of the results received by the mentioned authors). Received results will be illustrated with proper simulations.

Ejsmont [2014] has shown that families of free Meixner distributions can be characterized by the conditional moments of polynomial functions of degree 3. In this paper, we will give other characterizations of the free normal distribution which are formulated in a similar spirit.

Free probability theory was created by Dan Voiculescu, motivated by his efforts to understand special classes of von Neumann algebras. In the following we will give, mostly from the probability point of view, a survey on some of the basic ideas and results of free probability theory and show that in free probability theory, the role of Wigner’s semicircle distribution is analogous to that of the normal distribution in classical probability theory.

In the article authors try to measure the effectiveness of learning in secondary schools in Wroclaw. For this purpose, they use models for panel data. The use of panel models to measure the effectiveness have been launched by Aitkins and Longford in 1986. Our work focuses on the use of the ideas presented by these authors, which we apply to data describing the results of secondary schools and matriculation exams, and school characteristics.

Celem artykułu jest ocena działalności liceów wrocławskich na potrzeby procesu optymalizacji alokacji zasobów i polepszenia jakości kształcenia. Obie zasady skuteczności (effectiveness) kształcenia i efektywności (effeciency) decydują o sprawności działalności instytucji [por. Lubińska (red.), 2009]. Ocena powinna mieć wpływ na odkrywanie poziomu jakości kształcenia, rozumianego zarówno jako proces nauczania, jak i uczenia się, a szczególnie na zwiększenie wydajności i skuteczności działań instytucji, rozumianych jako poprawa potencjału wiedzy i umiejętności uczniów, a w wymiarze globalnym poprawa dobrobytu społecznego.

The aim of this article is to assess the activities of secondary schools Wroclaw for the purposes of optimizing the allocation of resources and improve the quality of education. Both the principle of effectiveness (effectiveness) and efficiency of education (effeciency) decide about the efficiency of the institution [see: Lubińska T. (ed.), 2009]. The assessment should have an impact on discovering the quality of education, understood both as a process of teaching and learning, and especially to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of institutions, understood as strengthening the potential of knowledge and skills of the students and the global improvement of social welfare.

The paper deals with an evaluation of the quality of services provided by healthcare organizations. First, an index representing a patient’s health condition is described, then its changes before and after being treated by a given entity are employed as a criterion to assess the operations of this entity. The index of a patient’s health condition is based on the theory of survival analysis, while a model of random effects is used to determine the quality of services based on health value added.

W artykule został podjęty temat oceny jakości usług jednostek służby zdrowia. W pierwszej kolejności opisano wskaźnik służący do określenia zdrowotnej kondycji pacjenta, a następnie jego zmiany w okresie przed skorzystaniem z usługi i po skorzystaniu z niej. Użyto go jako kryterium oceny pracy danej jednostki. Wskaźnik oceniający stan zdrowia pacjenta skonstruowano, wykorzystując teorię analizy przeżycia, a do określenia jakości usług na podstawie zdrowotnej wartości dodanej posłużono się modelem efektów losowych.
