W ciągu ostatnich około dziesięciu lat wszystkie wnioski o granty badawcze musiały zawierać wyrażenie „zrównoważony rozwój”. W ostatnim jednak czasie „zrównoważony rozwój” ustąpił miejsca „wytrzymałości”. Skąd ta zmiana? Może być ona związana ze zmianą mody w badaniach naukowych lub powstałą ostatnio atmosferą zagrożenia, szczególnie w odniesieniu do miast.

During the past ten years or so, any application for a research grant had to contain the word “sustainability”. Recently, however, sustainability has given way to “resilience”. Why this change? It could be a change in research fashion, or the recently produced atmosphere of threat, especially in relation to cities.

This text describes a methodology used in a field study of city management, using as an example a study of Warsaw in the 1990s. The approach used can be characterized as ergonography, i.e. ethnography focused on work. The work in question consisted of an action net which comprised various efforts aimed at managing a big city, that is, making it habitable. The techniques used included interviews, a special kind of observation called 'shadowing', and media analysis. The study focused on processes rather than structures, and observed the principle of symmetry, which demands equal attention being paid to all participants in the process of management, both human and nonhuman (artefacts and machines).

Niniejszy artykuł prezentuje metodologię zastosowaną w badaniach terenowych w ramach programu badawczego "Zarządzanie wielkim miastem" zrealizowanego w Goteborskim Instytucie Badań. Program przygotowany został dzięki wsparciu Rockefeller Foundation, a badania miasta Warszawy, opisane w książce A City Reframed: Managing Warsaw into the 1990s (2000) sfinansowane zostały przez fundację Gottlieb Daimler-Karl Benz.

This article presents an overview of the history of meetings of anthropology and the theory of organization in the Anglo-Saxon literature, with the emphasis put on the period of 1990-2010. It shows both the stable elements as well as the changes, which took place; and the events are presented in comparison to some broader processes - in social sciences and in the tested societies. The article ends with reflections on the possible future connection of anthropology and theory of organization.

Artykuł ten przedstawia pokrótce historię spotkań antropologii z teorią organizacji w literaturze anglosaskiej ze szczególnym naciskiem na lata 1990-2010. Ukazane są zarówno elementy stabilne, jak i zachodzące zmiany, a rozwój wydarzeń przedstawiony jest na tle szerszych procesów - w naukach społecznych i w badanych społeczeństwach. Artykuł kończą refleksje możliwego łączenia antropologii i teorii organizacji w przyszłości.
