The rebirth of the Republic of Poland after 123 years of partition found many participants of the anti-Russian January Uprising of 1863-1864 still alive. As early as 1919, Head of Polish State and Commander-in-Chief Józef Piłsudski granted the surviving veterans the right to wear the uniforms of the Polish Army, and the Veterans Corps 1863-1864 was created. The Parliament of the Republic of Poland enacted a fixed salary for veterans and granted officer ranks and rights. Every year, on the anniversary of the outbreak of the January Uprising, solemn ceremonies and celebrations were held throughout the country, attended by the public and military troops. Also, the funerals of the veterans were solemnly held with the observance of military ceremonial. Some military units received honorary heads of commanders from the January Uprising period.

Odrodzenie II Rzeczypospolitej po 123 latach zaborów zastało żyjących jeszcze wielu uczestników antyrosyjskiego Powstania Styczniowego 1863-1864. Już w 1919 r. Naczelnik Państwa Polskiego i Wódz Naczelny Józef Piłsudski przyznał żyjącym weteranom prawo noszenia mundurów Wojska Polskiego, utworzono również Korpus Weteranów 1863-1864. Sejm Rzeczypospolitej Polskiej uchwalił stałą pensję dla weteranów oraz nadał stopnie i prawa oficerskie. Co roku, w rocznicę wybuchu Powstania Styczniowego, w całym kraju odbywały się uroczyste akademie i obchody z udziałem społeczeństwa i oddziałów wojskowych. Również pogrzeby weteranów odbywały się uroczyście z zachowaniem ceremoniału wojskowego. Niektóre jednostki wojskowe otrzymały szefostwo honorowe dowódców z okresu Powstania Styczniowego.
