The necessity of a confrontational perception of the world, and the need for different correcting images of external and internal enemies were topical for the Soviet state mobilizing system, especially in periods of transformational changes. The time of the 1930s, with the violent transformation of peasants into agricultural workers, was such period. The resistance of the peasants to ‘collectivization’ took place in the form of mass demonstrations and passive actions. Resistance and the folklore connected to it in response to the wave of violent ‘collectivization’ became the subject of investigations by special services. However, in addition to peasants’ performances, elements of the 19th tradition culture appeared in the field of GPU’s attention. Examples of this are such documents as the current correspondence of religious leaders and the spiritual poems of the 19th century, confiscated when the Old Believers were arrested in July 1930 during their traditional pilgrimage to Veselye Gory.
