Niniejszy tekst zawiera koncepcję przyszłej edycji „Mojego wieku” przygotowywanej przez autora dla wydawnictwa Ossolineum do serii „Biblioteka Narodowa”. Zawiera on wiele nie publikowanych i nie znanych dotąd materiałów pochodzących ze zbiorów Beinecke Library of Rare Books and Manuscripts (Yale University), a także z prywatnych zbiorów syna poety, Andrzeja Wata. Najważniejszym celem jest tu skonstruowanie przed-tekstu „Mojego wieku”, jego uporządkowanie, opisanie oraz interpretacja. Metodologiczne podstawy tekstu opierają się na założeniach krytyki genetycznej. Badacz roztrząsa złożoną kwestię autorstwa tej książki. Próbuje również określić jej granice formalne, które wykraczają daleko poza klasyczne definicje autobiografii i czynią z niej dzieło o niepowtarzalnym i wyjątkowym charakterze.

This text contains the concept of the future edition of “Mój wiek” (“My Century”) prepared by the author for the Ossolineum Publishing House for the series “Biblioteka Narodowa” (“National Library”). It contains many unpublished and previously unknown materials from the collections of the Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library (Yale University), as well as from the private collections of Andrzej Wat, the poet’s son. The most important goal here is to construct an avant-text of “Mój wiek” (“My Century”), organise, describe and interpret it. The text’s methodological foundations are based on the assumptions of genetic criticism. The researcher considers the complex question of the book’s authorship. He also tries to define its formal boundaries which go far beyond the classic definitions of autobiography and make it a work of unique and exceptional character.

The text is a synthetic description of Edward Pasewicz’s poetic work, which is included within the “plan for a somatic criticism.” The key operational concept used to describe this poetry is rhythm, which spreads out on all the levels of expression like a theme in a story and makes the texts of every poet unique and original. The rhythm is closely linked with the process of listening and with the body itself, which generates it. Following Charlers Berstein, the author performs an act of Close Listening, attempting to point out the relations between rhythm, the sphere of sound in Pasewicz’s poetic texts, and a speaking subject.

The text is a discussion on Maria Delaperrière’s latest book “Okiem innego. Studia porównawcze o polskiej tożsamości literackiej i kulturowej” („The Eye of the Other. Comparative Studies in Polish Literary and Cultural Identity,” 2022). It is a classical collection of papers the well thought-out preparation and methodological foundations of which are based on the assumptions of literary and cultural comparative studies. The reviewer examines the papers contained in the book in the literary historical and theoretical contexts.

It is a selection of letters related, inter alia, to the edition of Aleksander Wat's My Century, in charge of which were the poet's wife and Czeslaw Milosz. The letters are treasured at the Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library (Yale University) in Czeslaw Milosz archives collection (catalogue number: GEN MSS 661). They contain important pieces of information especially about the final stage of the edition of My Century. Apart from detailed information about the edition of My Century in the letters to Czeslaw Milosz one also finds a touching text in which Watowa tells Milosz about her last meeting with Jaroslaw Iwaszkiewicz during his stay in France. In Ola Wat's letters we also come across pieces of information about American edition of My Century, for which publishing Czeslaw Milosz and Jan Gross acted as agents. The letters are published with the permission of Andrzej Wat, the poet's son, and the above selection of letters will be included into the edition of the second volume of Letters about All That Really Matters prepared by the 'Literary Notebooks' Foundation (Fundacja 'Zeszytów Literackich').

Utwór został przez Wata zatytułowany „Przypowieść o wróblu, chłopie i wilku” i napisany jako libretto do kompozycji muzycznej Nicolasa Nabokova. Zamieszczono tu wersję rosyjską utworu, jego transkrypcję oraz przekłady dosłowny i poetycki na język polski. Do całości dołączono komentarze filologiczne i historycznoliterackie

This text is a presentation of a so far unknown work by Aleksander Wat found in the archive of the poet in the Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library at Yale University. It is a part of Alexander Wat Papers with the signature GEN MSS 705 (Box 22 Folder 467). The work was entitled “Przypowieść o wróblu, chłopie i wilku” (“Parable of a Sparrow, a Peasant and a Wolf”) and was written as a libretto to the musical composition of Nicolas Nabokov entitled “The Parable of the Sparrow”. The Russian version of the song, its transcription, and literal and poetic translations into Polish are included in the paper. Philological and historical literary commentaries complement the presentation.
