The purpose of this article is to try to answer the question of how the idea of a dreamy house came to its creative realization in the poetry of Tadeusz Gajcy. According to Gaston Bachelardʼs philosophical conception, the initial memory of family home, the nostalgic returns to the lost childhood land, is just a threshold leading to the identification of deeper meanings. The house of our longings transformed by the dreamdestroys the feeling of passing, and thus represents the specific embodiment of the idea of eternity. The French anthropologist introduced the notion of a dreamy house for the purposes of literary research, which evokes in the space of literary images the archetypal image of pra-haven hidden in the depths of existence. Discovered by the poet as the seat of the inner indwelling, it is often referred to by reality as a backdrop for dreams of infinity. What is worth emphasizing, in Gajcyʼs poetry the poetic imagery of the dreamy house as an absolute value, shaping and saving humanity is built upon the foundations of personal relationships.

Tadeusz Gajcy – like enjoying today a world acclaimed Artur Rimbuad – belongs to the Group of poets of the symbol and the imagination. The author of the child his creative practice was so thinking the image, metaphor. When applying on the basis of articles literary and creative practice of the author to the child, you can be tempted to declare that the poet has set the imagination a specific role in the formation of aesthetic sensitivity and moral. Concepts such as love, patriotism, friendship, birth-place, a sense of community the fate bestowed the deep personal dimension. In addition, drawing inspiration and continuing to some extent political program II avant-garde, creative practice finally managed to break the well-established by the circle of these poets Convention. Happening the crash, destroyed world around him trying to defy a timeless harmony (and ethical). Created the master poet soldier calculates the direction of the shots of human suffering, love and death, by reference to the symbolism associated with the concept of the cross and martyrdom of the dependence of the current in the video poem Spectrum katastrofizmem, focused on shaping the ethical standard, which was to meet the challenges of the time, specify your relationship to the occupation of reality.

In Pieśń nostalgiczna brightness emerges as an admirable, esoteric es-sence, filled with cosmic forces. Determined by the lyrical subject with the significant epithets of “strong” and “foreign”, it exerts a strong influence on the world of his spiritual experiences, trying to acquaint him with the final issues. Is brightness that appears over the poetʼs head his “alter ego”, a creation of a dream dramatically highlighting the internal tension caused by the premoni-tion of his impending death? Or, on the contrary, it is quite a distinct, authentic personal being, able to meet the poet within the area delineated by the limits of his own language, and therefore specifically materialize – following Gilbert Durand – as a visible sign in the imagination sphere. Certainly, we cannot an-swer these questions in the context of purely literary research, and, indeed, we do not even need to, encouraging readers to commune with the mystery which surrounds the emergence of the literary work.

In childhood, Tadeusz Gajcy was an altar boy. Every morning, he must have listened to fragments of liturgical texts. Stories full of extraordinary events and miracles – undoubtedly affecting the childʼs imagination – come alive in his poetry at the level of naive consciousness. Poetic dreams seem to be stretched between the family room and everyday life woven into the rhythm of church life. The memory of the time spent serving at the altar allows the poet to treat the temple as a home, archetypical symbol of the inner refuge against sinister forces. Thus, hidden in the depths of the subconscious, the archetype is the foundation for the most powerful, cosmic dreams of happiness, the center from which the imagined contents of internal life soaked in richness flow from. In this article, using the Bachelardʼs categories of “oniric home” and “dreaming memory”, I ponder how the childhood archetype revived by memories evokes happy dreams. I come to the conclusion that the factor motivating their emergence are religious experiences marked by visionary eschatology. I explore relationships between the experience of the liturgical activities derived from childhood and the work of creative imagination. Simultaneously, I reflect on the essence and symbolic value of things transposed to the world of creative ideas.

The speech of sleep can be experienced both in the world of private symbols as well as symbolic situations. Sleep marries in itself the rational with the supernatural. And so allows us to contact the divine (sacred). In his poetry Tadeusz Gajcy treats sleep as the meeting place, of the invisible (as it is obscured by the senses) with the visible (as it refers to real events). Similarly, dreams are not something trivial, frivolous, the poet assigns them a metaphysical value, and therefore seems to be saying: cast a spell, believe in the power of creative imagination, give it a name to transform the time. In this way, it seems to invite the reader to embark on a joint flight to the place of intangible fulfilments, to hope itself. On the borderline of sleep and dream in the language of poetry by Tadeusz Gajcy there appear angels. Their voice strengthens identity, does not allow personality to lose itself in the dream-like visions, in obscurity (as the only way of liberation from suffering); the voice of theophany that appears in the poetic language of Tadeusz Gajcy reveals the greatest mystery of love as projected through the prism of martyrdom, especially in the filial attachment to the land (mother-country).

The poetic dream of Tadeusz Gajcy was not only a means of overcoming the horror and absurdity of the times, but also a way of expressing his personal relationship to the concept of death and sacrifice – growing, after all, out of the experiences of everyday occupation . This subject dominated the creative consciousness of Gajcy and had a decisive influence on the nature of the message contained in his testa - mental Grom powszedni . The main objective of these reflections is an attempt to find the justification of the motives of his conduct and life choices in the poetry of Tadeusz Gajcy . In the work I distinguished three complementary parts . In the first one I focused on the analysis of poetic images of Gajcy, paying attention to the role of poetic dreams in shaping ethical attitudes . In the second I was preoccupied with the problems of the victim in relation to the romantic tradition of martyrdom as present in the works of the author of Przed odejściem . In the last, and the most comprehensive, part I attempted to confront the poetic message of Tadeusz Gajcy with the assessment of those events and attitudes by Czesław Miłosz . In this part of the work I included also – as important from the perspective of the continuation of the brave attitude – the relationship of Zbigniew Herbert to the life choices of the Generation of Columbuses .

Tadeusz Gajcy in his mission-statement article: O wawrzyn, referring indirectly to Norwid’s conception of the idea of “action-word”, emphasized the educational aspect of literature, which, in the context of his own creative practice, denoted the hope of raising the human future in a fraternal spirit permeated by the ideas of humanism. What picture of man emerges from this poetry then? Will such a life attested by life attitude not seem a bit anachronistic usurpation in an era of postmodernism and cognitive relativism, also in the sphere of values? Besides, the question of the reception of this work applies to the subsequent generations of Poles. Could the poetic vision instil in them the idea of patriotism mounted on a foundation of human values? With this hint of uncertainty, emphasized by the particle “probably”, the poet asks the child of all time, believing in the prospect of meeting space the created by him and the lyrical words created by him, full of warmth and intimacy. Let us try to take a closer look at the image of the poet in: Do potomnego poem whose personal drama lay in the fact that while experiencing beauty as the epiphany of language, he himself was forced to live in the times when all human values were subject to degradation, destruction and dehumanization.
