W artykule przedstawiono działalność biblioteki nauczycielskiej w najstarszej polskiej szkole publicznej o charakterze świeckim. Omawiany okres obejmuje lata 1850-1914. Opisano ogólne zarysy funkcjonowania szkół średnich i ich bibliotek w drugiej połowie XIX i na początku XX wieku w zaborze austriackim. Opierając się na analizie materiałów archiwalnych dotyczących Szkół Nowodworskich oraz sprawozdań dyrektorów szkoły poruszono zagadnienia związane z przechowywaniem kolekcji, finansowaniem biblioteki, źródłami napływu księgozbioru do biblioteki, opracowaniem kolekcji, jej składem i wzrostem ilościowym, opieką nad księgozbiorem i jego wykorzystaniem. Starano się wykazać związek między sprawnie działającą biblioteką nauczycielską a wysokim poziomem nauczania w Gimnazjum Św. Anny.

Bibliografia zawiera 632 publikacje z zakresu organizacji i działalności współczesnych bi­bliotek zagranicznych oraz zawodu bibliotekarza za granicą. W ostatnich latach ukazuje się wiele wy­dawnictw podejmujących tą tematykę, a bibliografia może okazać się pomocna w poszukiwaniu infor­macji. Wpływ na zainteresowanie bibliotekarzy bibliotekami i bibliotekarstwem w innych krajach mają m.in. wyjazdy prywatne oraz służbowe, np. udział w konferencjach zagranicznych, stażach zawodowych czy wyjazdach szkoleniowych w ramach programu Erasmus. W przyszłości bibliografia będzie konty­nuowana za kolejne lata wraz z ewentualnymi uzupełnieniami za lata 2000–2018.

The bibliography contains 632 publications on the organization and operation of contemporary foreign libraries and the librarian's profession abroad. In recent years, there have been many publications devoted to this subject, and the bibliography may be helpful in the search for information. The interest of librarians in libraries and librarianship in other countries stems, among others, from private and business trips, e.g. participation in foreign conferences, professional internships and training placements under the Erasmus program. In the future, the bibliography will be extended to include the following years, with possible additions for the years 2000-2018.

The article discusses selected digital collections that form a source of information on the life of Polish emigrants in the USA in the first half of the 20th century, focusing mainly on materials about the Polish diaspora living in the city of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The digital resources of several American institutions are presented: Ellis Island Foundation, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (Milwaukee Polonia Roman Kwasniewski Photographs), and National Archives. The text is an attempt to analyze the resources available on the Internet, documenting the history of the author's family members who emigrated from Galicia to the United States over a hundred years ago.

W artykule przedstawiono zagadnienie podpalania bibliotek, począwszy od czasów starożytnych aż do współczesności, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem wieku XX i XXI. Pożary bibliotek były często planowaną destrukcją dziedzictwa kulturowego i śladów przeszłości. Biblioteki płonęły też wskutek działań najeźdźców w trakcie konfliktów zbrojnych. Omówiono niszczenie bibliotek na całym świecie oraz sposoby ochrony bibliotek przed pożarami.

The article presents the problem of setting fire to libraries, from ancient to modern times, with particular reference to the 20th and 21st centuries. Library fires were often planned destruction of cultural heritage and traces of the past. The libraries were also burned by invaders during armed conflicts. The destruction of libraries around the world and ways to protect libraries from fire are discussed.

The American Smithsonian Institution is the world's largest network of museums and research centers. The article describes the activity of Smithsonian Libraries, which in turn create the largest world system of museum libraries. The history of Libraries and such issues as: finance, digitizing collections, cataloging of collections, educational programs, internships and scholarships, as well as cooperation with other institutions (exchange, interlibrary loans, consortia, digital libraries, databases) are presented.

This article discusses the operation of Norwegian libraries on the example of the National Library in Oslo, the Bergen University Library, and the Stavanger Public Library. A modern building of the Public Library in Vennesla is presented. Norwegian librarianship issues (librarians’ education, librarians’ associations, interlibrary loan, reading), as well as the Doomsday Library project are discussed.

The paper presents the analysis of factors determining the economic growth from time perspective and their presentation in selected models. Growth is an extremely complex term dependent on many conditions. That is why models describing it are based on many assumptions which, on the one hand, al- low making the analysis simpler but, on the other hand, are depicting only the 'closer image' of reality where just selected factors explain the process of growth. Taking into consideration only quantitative determinants is not enough to indicate the sources of economic development. Therefore, qualitative conditions are also included and are currently becoming the main object of growth generators re- search. Particular emphasis was placed on the supply models of growth to show evolution of the supply determinants.

W opracowaniu zaprezentowano podstawowe wskaźniki obrazujące poziom nakładów na działalność B+R oraz strukturę ich finansowania w Polsce na tle krajów Unii Europejskiej. Dokonano oceny zróżnicowania poziomu oraz zmian trendów działalności B+R i innowacyjności w ujęciu województw Polski w latach 2005-2011 z wykorzystaniem wskaźników indywidualnych, a także dwóch metod taksonomicznych: metody TOPSIS i metody Warda. Otrzymane wyniki potwierdziły to, że województwo mazowieckie jest liderem we wszystkich rankingach i regionem zdecydowanie wyróżniającym się wśród pozostałych województw. Dla większości regionów Polski zaobserwowano zróżnicowanie zajmowanej pozycji w rankingu, jak również zmianę przynależności tych województw do różnych skupisk w badanych latach.

In the paper basic indicators depicting/describing the level of the expenditures on R&D activity and the structure financing them in Poland against the background of EU countries are presented. An assessment of diversifying the level and changes of trends in R&D activity and innovativeness in voivodships in Poland during the period 2005-2011 by making use of individual indicators as well as two taxonomical methods: TOPSiS and Ward’s methods has been done. Received results confirm that mazowieckie voivodship is the leader in all rankings and firmly comes the other provinces off. For the majority of regions in Poland diversifying the filled position in the ranking, as well as the change of the membership of these provinces in different clusters in examined years were observed.
