Adam Podsiadły in his entry John Amos Comenius as a citizen of Lesz-no discusses very important period in life of Comenius which is closely linked to his residence in Leszno. For this outstanding scholar, teacher, philosopher, writer, politician and one of the leaders of the Unity of the Brethren, Leszno became the cradle of scientific ideas . His research led him to introduction of pictorial teaching methods and innovative ways to learn foreign languages. In Leszno Comenius wro-te pieces like „Janua linguarum reserata” and „Didactica magna” next to working on the issue of „Orbis sensualium pictus”. Even though, thanks to his great achievements, Comenius became a figure widely known and respected in the seventeenth-century Europe, the time he spend in Leszno connects him strongly with this town and the entire region of Wielkopolska.
