Considerations included in this paper are part of the concept of on-demand economy, which is based on the avoidance of ownership and sharing resources on a common pool of assets. They relate to urban area mobility that includes the city itself and its agglomeration. In this case, the avoidance of ownership relates to the vehicle and the parking space. The paper contains a sample calculation of the cost of owning a car to the cost of mobility realized by means of collective public transport and a vehicle occasionally rented on the commercial basis. The results of this calculation prompted the author to look for possible alternative scenarios of mobility services, including short-term vehicle rental. They have been discussed and accordingly, the chances of their implementation in the coming years, based on the observation of activities of different actors in the field, have been determined. Consequently this enabled the author to propose the concept of mobility subscription, which would offer the opportunity to move freely around the city and its outskirts with simultaneous avoidance of ownership and keeping in mind sustainable development of the city.

The discussion presented in the paper is meant to show the role which the on-demand economy plays in everyday life in more and more aspects of it. The purpose of the paper is to refer the value of the on-demand economy to city logistics, where there is a special need to share resources and avoid ownership. It is primarily due to the excessive accumulation of certain resources within a limited area, which in essence contributes to the deterioration of the quality of life and doing business in the city by significantly reducing mobility. The author therefore offers his contribution to the discussion on the impact of the on-demand economy on city logistics and its importance for developing a system for the flow of resources within the city environment.

Using Smartphones in Supply Chains Mobile phones have settled in our lives for good. The technological development made them actual miniature computers with significant computing capability and many diverse functions, which earned them the name „smartphones”. They create new possibilities of application, also in business environments. As it turns out, already today smartphones are the most popular mobile devices used in supply chain management. Surely, as versatile and multi-functional devices, they will gain even larger share in the implementation of business tasks in the foreseeable future. The purpose of this paper is to describe the potential areas in supply chain management smartphones can be used in, compared to the current trends. The specified examples of application will be used to draw conclusions regarding the expected effects of use and most promising areas of implementation. These deliberations will be put in a wider social context, which is inevitable if we are to treat the consumer as the last link in the supply chain which, owing to the reported demand, is becoming a causative factor in all flows of goods.

In this study the question of innovation and information management in supply chain is addressed. We assume that innovation and information management are interrelated in supply chains and that the relationship is crucial for their success on the market. Considerable attention was given to the issue of outsourcing which is now a commonplace in supply chain management. In particular, we examined how approaches to managing information and knowledge in the supply chain differ according to ICT outsourcing. The deduction is based on a data set of 426 companies located in Poland, representing a variety of industry sectors. Two stages of the research were realised. The rationale behind this was to identify enterprises that utilise a welldeveloped system of information and knowledge management to determine the scope of possible in-depth analyses. This helped to receive valuable responses. We find what information and knowledge management is mainly driven by. We show the similarities and differences in information and knowledge management between entities that use ICT outsourcing and those that do not. We discuss the research results and draw conclusions.

The fourth industrial revolution (4IR) introduces significant changes in various areas of economic and social life. Many of them are perceived as groundbreaking and game-changing, which is a feature of every revolution. 4IR exerts a direct impact on economic and social life through the incredible development of ICT. The paper aims to present the scope of impact of these changes on logistics and supply chain management – areas of business management that are currently of great importance for competitiveness. The role of ICT in modern logistics and supply chain management was also shown, and selected specific technologies that considerably contribute to the deepening of digital transformation in these areas of activity were discussed. Attention was drawn to the complementarity of ICT solutions at the enterprise and the economy levels. The authors came up with a concept of an intelligent (digital) supply chain as a solution that satisfies the need to strengthen supply chain’s resilience and supports the implementation of environmental sustainability strategies in line with the development of the circular economy. The authors also discuss development directions of the so-called intelligent logistics and intelligent supply chains under the conditions of 4IR.
