The article addresses the issues relating to the operations of the police Cold Case Units as well as the role of modern forensic tools in solving cases that were dismissed at the pre-trial stage, due to a failure to detect the perpetrators. The second part of the article describes selected methods and tools used at different stages of the X-Files investigations. The innovative solutions described are classified according to the place and purpose of application. Exemplary cases which have been solved with the use of innovative technological solutions are indicated.

Artykuł porusza problematykę związaną z istotą funkcjonowania policyjnych Zespołów ds. Przestępstw Niewykrytych oraz rolą nowoczesnych narzędzi techniki kryminalistycznej w rozwiązywaniu spraw umorzonych na etapie postępowania przygotowawczego ze względu na niewykrycie sprawców. W drugiej części opracowania opisano wybrane metody i narzędzia znajdujące zastosowanie na różnych etapach działań śledczych z policyjnych Archiwów X. Wyróżniono przy tym podział ze względu na miejsce i cel wykorzystania danej innowacji. Wskazano przykłady spraw, które zostały rozstrzygnięte za pomocą innowacyjnych rozwiązań technologicznych.
