ЕВРЕЙСКИЙ ВОПРОС ОБ ОДЕССЕИ ЕГО ХУДОЖЕСТВЕННЫЕ ПРЕДСТАВЛЕНИЯ(БАБЕЛЬ, КАТАЕВ, ШРАЙБЕР)Р е з ю м еНастоящая статья намерена вкратце проследить судьбу еврейской диаспоры,проживающей в Одессе с момента обоснования города в печальные, перелом-ные для нее моменты. В ходе рассуждений будут затронуты уязвимые темыпогромов евреев, окончательное решение еврейского вопроса во время Второймировой войны, а также усиливающаяся с 70-х гг. ХХ века массовая миграцияевреев из СССР на Запад, главным образом в США. Вышеупомянутые вопросырассматриваются в контексте вклада одесских евреев в социально-экономиче-ское и культурное развитие города. Приведенные в статье траурные событияотслеживаются на материале избранных текстов представителей так называ-емой «Одесской плеяды» в литературе (т.е. Исаака Бабеля и Валентина Ката-ева), в то время как массовое уничтожение и миграция, представлены в кино-картине Льва Шрайбера И все осветилось (Everything is illuminated).

This article aims to answer the question of how the City of Odessa was portrayed in the Michale Boganim's movie Odessa... Odessa! The first part deals withthe phenomenon of the City’s omnipresence in various works of art, along with factorsthat contributed to its prosperity in 19th century. The next part of the article is devotedto the movie’s composition that partially resembles a triptych, collage and musical variation devoted to specific space. Special attention was paid to the original soundtrack, the way of shooting urban landscapes and colors, which combined together contribute to the movies overall nostalgic atmosphere. In the following part, metaphors that underline the passage of time in the movie are enumerated and analyzed. Conclusions concerning Odessians' mental and spiritual exile as well as their vision of imaginary, idealized Odessa, that no longer exists are drawn in the last part.

This paper aims at sketching cultural portrayals of the Ukrainian city Odessa and the Bosnian capital, Sarajevo, with reference to their current socio-political situation. Cultural visions of both places not only tend to have a lot in common, paradoxically due to the differences that they share but also the ones present in various texts of culture. Thus, both cities can boast their own myths. The symbolic space is approached among others through the prism of Vladimir Toporov’s theory. The city perceived by some researchers as a metaphor of culture functions as a kind of laboratory that fixates social and cultural changes emerging within the society on the microscopic scale. In addition, the current geopolitical situation of those places is mentioned with its war/conflict aftermath that contributes to certain city image.

Marta Siekierska, THE HOLOCAUST TRAGEDY AND JEWISH SITES OF MEMORY IN UKRAINE IN THE NOVEL EVERYTHING IS ILLUMINATED BY J. S. FOER. “PORÓWNANIA” 1 (24), 2019. Vol. XXIV, P. 135-145. ISSN 1733-165X. The aim of this paper is to analyze the novel Everything is illuminated by Jonathan Safran Foer with consideration of the relation of the form and language to historical trauma experienced by the hero of this novel. The distinctive form and language employed by the author account for an innovative restatement of the history and the theme of extermination. The paper also addresses the landscape of the Ukrainian-Polish borderline, in Foer’s work portrayed as one marked by historical, metaphysical and cultural borders. The subsequent object of analysis is the rich symbolism of Everything is illuminated which accentuates the sense of meaningful absence, the blank space of memory that remains after the annihilation of the Jewish community.

Cel niniejszego artykułu stanowi próba analizy powieści, skoncentrowana na relacjach zachodzących między formą i językiem utworu a traumą historyczną, jakiej doświadczają bohaterowie. Specyficzna konstrukcja oraz język, który wykorzystuje w powieści autor, przekładają się na nowatorski sposób przetworzenia historii oraz tematu Zagłady. Tekst prezentuje również obecny w powieści pejzaż polsko-ukraińskiego pogranicza, wytyczanego przez historyczne, metafizyczne oraz kulturowe granice. Analizie i interpretacji zostaje poddana obecna w utworze bogata symbolika, uwypuklająca wymiar znaczącej nieobecności zgładzonej społeczności oraz wymownej luki, białego miejsca pamięci, która po nich pozostała.

The article examines the process of longing for Odessa-Mama on the basis of Michale Boganim’s Odessa…Odessa!, Liev Schreiber’s Everything is illuminated and Sergey Ursulyak’s Liquidation. In this paper particular attention is devoted to the terms Odessan myth and Odessan text that are key elements of analysed movies and contribute to the nostalgic portrayal of Odessa.
