The aim of this paper is to present the silhouette of Guillermo Pérez-Villalta, one of the most important contemporary artists in Spain, in the context of the idea of kitsch. The key question for one who would like to study Pérez- -Villalta’s pictures is the problem of the coexistence of the negatively regarded component like kitsch and the real respect for the painter treated as one of the most important figures of art in his country. What may seem even more curious is that Pérez-Villalta himself declares a really positive attitude to kitsch – he even says about being fascinated with it. This fascination may have its origins in the ideas represented by the socio-cultural movement from the 70-80s 20th century – la movida madrileña – that Pérez-Villalta was one of the co-founders. Movida was very keen on fun, laugh, colors and kitsch as well. Villalta painted two very important pictures then – Grupo de personas en un atrio o la alegoría del arte y la vida o del presente y el futuro (1975) and Escena, personajes en la salida de un concierto rock (1979), trying to show the relationships between the members of movida. Even now it is easy to find the elements of kitsch in Pérez-Villalta’s pictures but it does not in any way deny his originality and high position among contemporary Spanish most venerated artist.

The aim of this paper is to present the methods of depicting the act of persuasion on the picture in the background of the speech act theory. The analysis is based on the examples of Italian paintings from 16th and 17th century that are showing the scene of Christ meeting the adulteress. Firstly, the sequence of speech acts drawn from the text of the Gospel of saint John has been decoded. Furtherly, it was shown which of them had been chosen by the artists and how they had managed to transform the text into the painting using such tools as color, light and shade valor, and the direction of lines that organizes the composition. The conclusion is as follows: the act of persuasion can be easily recognized in painting not only due to the expressions of the faces of the protagonists of the scene and their gestures but as well due to the pure pictorial elements like the diagonal lines and strong contrast between light and shade.

The subject matter of the research presented in the article are four paintings by Guido Reni depicting the Annunciation. The purpose of the article was to analyse those paintings with the instruments created within the discipline of linguistic pragmatics. Firstly, the author of the article indicates the textual sources of the iconographical theme of the Annunciation; secondly, she divides the main text, namely a fragment of the Gospels according to St Luke, into particular speech acts, and next she investigates which of those acts appeared in the paintings. It is possible to define the type of particular speech acts on the basis of non-verbal and accompanying components that contribute to a given act. She supplements the pragmalinguistic analysis with a description of purely painting means, which allowed the artist to create his own version – within visual arts – of a scene immortalised in a literary text.
