The problems discussed are concerned with widowhood and remarriage of women among Polish higher nobility during the later Middle Ages viewed from demographic and social perspective. The analysis is based on data from research using genealogical and prosopographic methods on a group of 43 married women, descending from (daughters) or linked to (wives) the Bninski family of the Lodzia heraldic clan, one of the most powerful families of late medieval Great Poland. The issues discussed cover frequency of widowhood and remarriage of women, as well as the contexts accompanying and conditioning new marriages of widows, especially the time elapsing before remarriage, marital status of second husbands, and the age of women at the time of becoming a widow and when getting married again.
