This article addresses the challenges associated with contemporary models of the indexing and classification of knowledge. The expansiveness and dissemination of new media, particularly that of the Internet, redefines, in the author’s opinion, key concepts such as knowledge, wisdom, and authority. The author hypothesises that knowledge activity increasingly ceases to be the principal domain of scientists and experts, and proffers a more collective‑type intelligence, as illustrated by the collectively‑created encyclopaedia – Wikipedia. Internet communities depreciate the value of objective knowledge by taking on the social tagging of context themselves. According to the author, these findings lead to theconclusion that we are moving from an elite, ‘cathedral model’ of knowledge creation, to a ‘bazaar’, in which every voice is important.

Artykuł podejmuje kwestie związane ze współczesnymi modelami oznaczania i klasyfikowania wiedzy. Ekspansywność i upowszechnienie nowych mediów, a szczególnie internetu, redefiniuje, zdaniem autorki, kluczowe pojęcia, takie jak wiedza, mądrość, autorytet. Autorka stawia hipotezę, że coraz częściej działalność wiedzotwórcza przestaje być domeną naukowców i ekspertów, na rzecz kolektywnej inteligencji, co znajduje swoje odzwierciedlenie chociażby w zbiorowo tworzonej encyklopedii – Wikipedii. Społeczność internautów deprecjonuje wartość wiedzy obiektywnej, samodzielnie podejmując się społecznego tagowania treści (social tagging). Zdaniem autorki, obserwowane zmiany prowadzą do konkluzji, iż przechodzimy od elitarnego, katedralnego modelu tworzenia wiedzy, do bazaru, na którym każdy głos ma znaczenie.
