Regional Innovation Strategies (RIS) represent an important instrument supporting innovativeness in a developed economy. Smart specializations play a special role for developing and implementing of RIS. The purpose of the paper is to present the role of smart specialization in the design and implementation of RIS in the Silesia Province. The article presents models and methods for creating and implementing of RSI. .Especially, it shows these elements and processes, which are related to the impact and development of smart specializations. In case of the Silesian region, smart specializations are power industry, medicine and Information and Communication Technology (ICT). The paper is based on research and design works, that resulted in the development of RIS and model for its implementation in the Silesian Province within 2014-2020.

Energetyka stanowi ważny sektor gospodarki, decydujący o rozwoju społecznym, ekonomicznym i cywilizacyjnym każdego kraju. Jej silny wpływ na środowisko i zmiany klimatyczne powodują, że energetyka należy do tej dziedziny gospodarki światowej, w której dokonują się duże przeobrażenia technologiczne i organizacyjne oparte na szerokiej gamie wdrażanych innowacji. Wpływają one nie tylko na zmiany modeli biznesu funkcjonujących przedsiębiorstw energetycznych, ale generują także nowe modele, w których dominującą rolę odgrywają innowacje. W artykule przedstawiono koncepcje modeli biznesu w aspekcie ich aplikacji w dziedzinie energetyki. Wykorzystano je do opracowanej metodyki badania modeli innowacyjnej energetyki. Zaprezentowano wyniki zastosowania metody do badania trzech rodzajów modeli biznesu.

Energy sector is an important part of the economy, that decides about social, economic and civilizational development. Its strong impact on the environment and climatic changes cause that energy sector belongs to this domain of world economy, which is related to significant technological and organizational transformations based on wide range of implemented innovations. These not only affect changes of business models of functioning energy companies, but also generate new business models, where innovations play predominating role. The paper presents business model concepts in the aspect of their application into energy sector. They were used in the developed methodology of studying models of innovative energy sector. Results of application of this method to study three types of business models were presented.
