The paper focuses on an assessment of the changes over time in tertiary education’s influence on the level of wages with the application of the Mincerian earnings function method. The conducted empirical research allowed for the identification of growth patterns in the so called pseudo rate of return to higher education in Poland and Germany in the last decade (using data from the Polish Social Diagnosis and German Socio-Economic Panel Study (SOEP)). In addition, an analysis of dynamics of influence of auxiliary factors on earnings (such as gender, geographical location, character of work etc.) is given. Since 1998, when the Sorbonne Declaration was signed, the development and modernization of higher education have been the priorities of the European Union policies. A significant part of the postulated reforms require changes in the area of funding of universities, in particular encouraging a shift from centralized input oriented funding mechanisms towards decentralized outcome oriented financing. In that context one of the key problems is the measurement of the efficiency and effectiveness of various aspects of higher universities activities, including the education area.

The paper presents Interpretation of Fu living at the top of the mountain 山居賦 written by Xie Lingyun. Xie wrote 山居賦 in the period 423–26. He also wrote an extensive commentary to the poem in which he explains in prose many of the details that the mentions in the fu proper. Xie Lingyun’s account of his mountain estate reflect new ideas about mounatin viewing and visualization that has emerged in the early fourth century.

Fu o zamieszkiwaniu na górze 山居賦 Xie Lingyuna należy do „liryki krajobrazowej” rodzaju specjalnie chińskiego, łączącego zwarty, migawkowy obraz przyrody z uczuciami poety. Jest przykładem utworu, którego tematyka była bardzo popularna we wczesnym chińskim piśmiennictwie, jest relacją z podróży w góry nie tylko wędrowca, ale też osoby odbywającej podróż w wyobraźni. Takie wycieczki określane były jako yuan you 遠遊, „dalekie wędrówki”, i oznaczały podróż ducha do odległych miejsc. Wiersz ten wyrósł z dyscypliny religijnej, z koncentracji na wejrzeniu w głąb rzeczy z należytym skupieniem serca, z poszukiwania cech istotnych lub istoty rzeczy. Poszukiwanie ma jednak określony z góry cel, odnalezienie harmonii.

The article presents small volume of art theories beginning with the period when the independent landscape painting was scarcely known and concluding with the age when it became a predominant theme. The art critics of early China where also artists, and the translated essays were all written by the famous painters as their intimate records.

W artykule zostały omówione klasyczne teksty poświęcone malarstwa napisane przez Gu Kaizhi 顧愷之, Zong Binga 宗炳, Wang Weia 王 i Xie He 谢赫, które podążają w kierunku wyznaczonym przez chińską estetykę. Sporo pojęć i terminów ich teorii sztuki przyjęło się i na trwałe weszło do kanonu chińskiej estetyki. Odrzucono wszelkiego rodzaju odstępstwa od praw przyrody i ludzkiego życia. Artysta powinien odtwarzać nie kształt zewnętrzny, lecz istoty wewnętrznej. Malarz powinien raczej sugerować niż opisywać. Stworzenie czystej pustki jest dużo bardziej pożądane niż ukazanie detali obiektów.

Discovering bamboo was a breakthrough for painting in Yuan, Ming and Qing periods and making it a separate subject marked the beginning of literati painting. Painting, like calligraphy and poetry, were cultivated by the educated wenren people, especially for the educated, and in some cases for the artist’s entertainment. In ideal conditions, wenren did not sell their works. The painting of bamboo has received so much attention in China and so many artists of the highest competence have devoted their lives to the subject.

Bambus w malarstwie dynastii Yuan, Ming i Qing został potraktowany jako samodzielny temat. Cechą charakterystyczną, która dominowała w ich malarstwie bambusów, to pewien rodzaj swobodnego ekspresjonizmu, silnie jednakże zakotwiczonego w tradycjach sztuki malarskiej. Wszyscy ci malarze byli uczonymi, a ponieważ wielu z nich było tak biegłymi w kaligrafii, co w malarstwie, stało się coraz bardziej popularne wśród artystów, jak i pośród ich przyjaciół, dodawanie wiersza do obrazu aby w ten sposób poezją wzmocnić nastrój czy też koncepcję.

This article is concerned with the problem of the selfbreeding activity in youth with a sense of internal and exfernal control. It seems that the sense of internal control is connected with high selfbreeding activity. To attempt to answer this question I have tested 180 person − 90 girls and 90 boys. With regards to the type of school, the group was not homogenious. The greater part of the boys was learning in the secondary house-building school (37% of all subjects), and greater part of the girls − in a secondary school (34%). The age of those under study was between 17 and 21 years old. All persons were tested by means of the Questionnaire Studying of sense of Control of Growing Youth (KBPK) worked out by A.Kurzyp and G. Krasowicz, and Questionnaire of Selfbreeding (S-W) worked out by the author. As auxiliary method I used free opinion about experience "to be master of myself". I used KBPK to seperate two groups out of those under study: with internal locus of control and with external locus of control. In my studies the lowest general result of a tested person was 8 (xmin = 8), and the highest − 37 (xmax =37). I used quartile deviation (Q) to appoint groups of external and internal locus of control. The persons who obtained results of I quarter (8-20 p.) constitute the group of external locus of control (group "Z"), and persons with the results of IV quarter (27-37 p.) constitute the group of internal locus of control (group "W"). Groups selected by KBKP (Z & W) obtained different results in Questionnaire S-W. Persons of W-group (M=76,71; SD=8,94)obtained higher coefficient of selfbreeding activity than persons of Z-group (M=67,23; SD=11.04). The difference is statistically significant (p=0,000; t=4,62). The sense of internal control in youth is connected with a higher level of selfbreeding, development of self-konwledge, self--determination and self-control.

There is a need to measure the efficiency and effectiveness of higher education in its various aspects, including the area of non-monetary benefits of higher education. Education relates to the wider economic and social effects and human welfare depends partly on earnings but also on non-monetary outcomes that all trace back to education in various ways. There exist positive relationships between education and health, the health of family members, the schooling of one’s children, life choices made, fertility choices and infant mortality. Increasing the education level also has a positive effect on the environment and has a strong influence on crime reduction. The article is a review of the impact of the intangible benefits of higher education, particularly non-monetary private and the social rates of return on investment in education. Empirical studies are carried out on data from the Social Diagnosis2 2011.

This article attempts to examine the applicability of hedonic regression and conjoint analysis as a tool for supporting the pricing policy. Conjoint analysis and hedonic regression are both based on the assumption that durable consumer goods are conglomerates of significant and utility bearing attributes. Conjoint analysis measures partial utilities of characteristics of the commodity as components of the overall preference towards a certain variant of the product. Hedonic regression, in turn, allows for decomposition of the price of the commodity into set of prices of individual characteristics (called implicit or hedonic prices). It is expected that the combined use of these techniques will allow for broader insight into the issue of consumers' preferences and should provide sound basis for commodities pricing. Conducted empirical research was based on two complementary datasets relating tablet computers.

The paper is devoted to the conception of education according to Fr. Franciszek Sawicki, a theologian and philosopher, who lived in 1877-1952. His conception contains the ideal of Christian personality, love as a condition of personal development, and culture as the realization of values. The conception deals with education taken in the perspective of the whole life, in the perspective of a continual formation of personality. In this approach we deal with philosophical education, referring to the conception of man-person endowed with free will, conscience, a person open to transcendent values and responsible. The theological dimension of education, according to Fr. F. Sawicki, finds its expression in referring the ideal of personality and pattern of love to the Person of Christ, in attributing to religion an essential role in culture. Thus the subject of education in this conception is above all Catholics − a fellowship of people who are bound together by the Person of Jesus Christ.

Celem badań przeprowadzonych w ramach prezentowanego artykułu jest wskazanie analizy korespondencji jako metody niezwykle użytecznej w rozpoznawaniu współwystąpień kategorii zmiennych wyróżnionych w trakcie egzaminu gimnazjalnego. Wskazanie powiązań między kategoriami zróżnicowanych zmiennych może być wskazówką do dalszej modernizacji systemu edukacji, tak by dostęp do wiedzy nie był ograniczany. System edukacji w Polsce poddano radykalnej reformie, którą zapoczątkowano w 1999r. Jej celem było podniesienie jakości kształcenia oraz dopasowanie systemu edukacji do wymagań gospodarki opartej na wiedzy. Jednym z najważniejszych rozwiązań proponowanych w reformie szkolnictwa było wprowadzenie nowej struktury szkolnictwa. W trakcie reformy systemu edukacji wprowadzono między innymi egzamin gimnazjalny, którego wyniki z lat 2003-2010 wzięto pod uwagę w prowadzonej analizie. Egzamin ten jest jednak powszechny i obowiązkowy. Dysponowano wynikami Centralnej Komisji Egzaminacyjnej dla poszczególnych uczniów w województwach opolskim i dolnośląskim z podziałem na szkoły, gminy, płeć oraz tematyczne obszary egzaminacyjne w zakresach przedmiotów matematyczno-przyrodniczych i humanistycznych. Przeprowadzono analizę korespondencji wykorzystując podejście klasyczne i dla wielu zmiennych.

The aim of the research presented in this article is to indicate the correspondence analysis as a very useful method in recognizing the categories’ associations of variables identified in the gymnasium exam. Indication of the relationships between categories of different variables may give a recommendation to further reform of the education system so that the access to knowledge is not limited. A radical reform of the educational system in Poland started in 1999. Its aim was to improve the quality of education and to adjust the education system to the requirements of the knowledge-based economy. One of the main solutions proposed in the reform was the introduction of the new education structure. An external, universal and compulsory gymnasium exam was implemented and its results from the years 2003-2010 were taken into consideration in this scrutiny. The analysis was based on the results collected by the Central Examination Board for individual students in the dolnośląskie and opolskie voivodships with regard to school, community, gender and exam thematic areas in the fields of humanities, mathematics and science. The correspondence analysis was performed using both simple and multiway approaches.

Effects of environmental exposures in utero and in the first years of life on early life health and development is a growing research area with major public health implications. The main aim of this work has been to provide an overview of the next step of the Polish Mother and Child Cohort Study (REPRO_PL) covering exposure, health and neurodevelopment assessments of children at 7 years of age. Details regarding methodology of the follow-up of the children are crucial for cross-cohort collaboration and a full understanding of the future research questions. Phase III of the REPRO_PL cohort covers a follow-up of 900 children at the age of 7 years old. The questionnaire filled in by the mothers is composed of: socio-demographic, child exposure and home environment information, nutritional status and health data. In the case of 400 children, environmental (including collection of urine, saliva and buccal cells), health status and psychomotor assessments are performed. Health and development check consists of physical measurements, child health status assessment (including lung function tests, skin prick testing, an interview/examination by an allergist) and psychomotor development tests (the Strength and Difficulties Questionnaire and the Intelligence and Development Scales). The results of the study will become available within the next few years. Extension of the REPRO_PL cohort with examinations of children at the age of 7 years old may provide a better understanding of the relationship between environmental and lifestyle-related factors and children’s health and neurodevelopment; and may further strengthen scientific base for policies and interventions promoting healthy lifestyle.
