„Tygodnik Ilustrowany” was one of the most important magazines in Warsaw in the 2nd half of nineteenth century. From the first issues of the magazine there is information about the national Antiquities. The reports of foreign Antiquities began to appear in the 2nd half of 1860s, and since then their number is steadily increasing. Most texts describing the discovery and ancient monuments were in the 1880s. Individual articles have appeared in the 1890s. At the beginning of the twentieth century once again increased the number of texts about Antiquities. Archaeological issues are not just confined to the news about the excavations. In „Tygodnik” placed biographies of scholars and collectors. Informed about exhibitions and museums that collect artifacts from the ancient times. Has also been reported same artifacts. There were also reprints articles in foreign languages. They were in the section „Artykuły treści naukowej, z innych piśmiennictw czerpane”. Small foreign reports of findings were published in „Ze świata obcego” edited by Mścisława Edgara Trepkę (Toporczyka), and later in the „Kronika Powszechna”. At this time the authors of the articles represented a variety of disciplines.

“Tygodnik Ilustrowany”, one of the most popular Warsaw periodicals, was coming out between 1859–1939. The aim of its founders was to create a magazine that would address national issues, including our past. The historical section, in which archeological topics found a place, was visible part of the “Tygodnik Ilustrowany”. The first editor of the magazine, Ludwik Jenike, for 27 years of managing the Warsaw periodical (that is the whole discussed period) never decided to limit publications connected with antiquity. However the archeological issues did not find a permanent place in the magazine. The following antiquarians were writing for the “Tygodnik Ilustrowany”: Józef Łepkowski, Franciszek Maksymilian Sobieszczański, Wacław Szymanowski, Kazimierz Władysław Wójcicki, Józef Ignacy Kraszewski. It must be underlined that the published information on archeological topics was not limited just to the news about excavations or accidental discoveries. The scholars’ and collectors’ biographical entries with precise descriptions of their findings as well as information on ancient exhibitions and museums that gather the monuments from prehistoric times were also included in the “Tygodnik Ilustrowany”. The history was treated with all seriousness during the 19th century, because the memory of the past, including the most remote times, was the sign of patriotism.

Analiza tekstów opublikowanych w latach 1913-1914 (przed wybuchem I wojny światowej) w „Tygodniku Ilustrowanym” wskazuje, iż wydawane w Warszawie pismo koncentrowało swoją uwagę przed wszystkim na zachowaniu rozwagi i dystansu. Redakcja, uspokajając czytelników, proponowała spojrzenie na europejski konflikt w kategoriach przywrócenia równowagi ekonomicznej. Wybuch wojny zmusił pismo do modyfikacji strategii komunikacyjnej – materiały składające się na pierwszy wojenny numer periodyku oscylują między strachem i fermentem (w doniesieniach o działaniach zbrojnych) a spokojem i pewnością (w opisie nowego porządku). Retoryczne napięcie obecne w materiałach numeru specjalnego oddaje przełomowość opisywanej rzeczywistości, a jednocześnie świadczy o podjętej przez redakcję próbie utrzymania realizowanej w periodyku strategii informacyjnej, o dążeniu do uprzywilejowania dyskursu porządku.

The aim of this article is to compare the modelling of media and memoir coverage of the Brazilian voyage of the “Lviv” in 1923 in two popular illustrated cultural magazines of the interwar period: Świat and Tygodnik Ilustrowany. To reconstruct the forms the message, publications from the years 1922-1925 were traced, i.e., those printed before, during, and shortly after the voyage. Using the comparative method and editorial collation, B. Pawłowicz’s and T. Dębicki’s reports published in the magazines were compared with their first book editions. As a result of this contextual analysis, the author shows how the choice of the information strategy pursued by the periodical influenced the modelling of the travel message. This information strategy also determined the reduction of the components presented and led to the creation of two separate stories, bringing people closer to the reality of life in São Vicente, Portugal, or the Brazilian state.

The article presents how the editors of „Tygodnik Ilustrowany [The Illustrated Weekly]” modelled the flow of information related to the resurgence of Belarus in 1918 (and therefore from the moment when Belarus regained independence until the Byelorussian Soviet Socialist Republic was incepted). The weekly paper proposed the horizon of the research – the interpretation of the liberation endeavour of Belarus in the context of collaborative securing of the Polish assets and in a perspective of educational and cultural influences important for Belarus.

Artykuł prezentuje, w jaki sposób redakcja „Tygodnika Ilustrowanego” modelowała przekazy związane z odradzaniem się Białorusi w roku 1918 (a zatem od chwili odzyskania przez Białoruś niepodległości do momentu powstania Białoruskiej Socjalistycznej Republiki Radzieckiej). W horyzoncie badawczym znalazła się zaproponowana przez pismo interpretacja wolnościowych dążeń Białorusi w kontekście opartego na współpracy zabezpieczenia polskiego stanu posiadania oraz w perspektywie ważnych dla Białorusi wpływów oświatowo-kulturowych.

Артыкул прадстаўляе, як рэдакцыя [„Tygodnika Ilustrowanego”] „Ілюстраванага штотыднёвіка” фарміравала паведамленні пра адраджэнне Беларусі ў 1918 г. (ад моманту атрымання Беларуссю незалежнасці да часу ўтварэння Беларускай Савецкай Сацыялістычнай Рэспублікі). У кругаглядзе даследчыка апынулася прапанаваная часопісам інтэрпрэтацыя імкненняў Беларусі да незалежнасці ў кантэксце супрацоўніцтва і гарантавання польскай дзяржаўнасці, а таксама ў перспектыве важных для Беларусі асветніцка-культурных уплываў.

The aim of the article is to analyze Jerzy Bandrowski’s reportage, which was published on the pages of “The Illustrated Weekly” in 1919. The reportage is examined through the prism of the information strategy adopted by the weekly after Poland regained independence. Such information strategy involved searching for new forms of expression, themes and motives in the shifting political and cultural situation. The analysis reveals that the reportage, on the one hand, is a continuation of the current model of presenting Asian distinctness (exoticism), and on the other hand, it is an attempt to offer readers a new perspective on Asian culture (mainly Japanese) as something modern and familiar.

Przedmiotem artykułu jest analiza reportażu Jerzego Bandrowskiego, który ukazywał się na łamach „Tygodnika Ilustrowanego” w 1919 roku. Tekst rozpatrywany jest w perspektywie strategii informacyjnej realizowanej po odzyskaniu niepodległości przez opiniotwórczy periodyk, który w zmieniającej się sytuacji polityczno-kulturowej poszukiwał nowych form wypowiedzi, tematów i motywów. Przeprowadzona analiza pokazuje, iż reportaż stanowi z jednej strony kontynuację dotychczasowego modelu kreowania wizji azjatyckiej odmienności (egzotyzm), z drugiej zaś jest próbą zaproponowania czytelnikom nowego, odwołującego się do kategorii swojskości i nowoczesności, spojrzenia na kulturę azjatycką (głownie japońską).
