The so-called “Paul’s boast” is an exceptional part of the literary activity of St. Paul. It allows us to look first at the Apostle as a man who suffers, who is sensitive, full of kindness and love. At the same time, it allows us – and this is important – to look at a man totally united with Christ. For such a man the only value is Christ and everythimg that is included within the salutary province of Christ. He-Christ became the “only Lord” for Paul.

Le livre de la Révélation nous présente toute une théologie de la Parole. Destiné à la lecture dans l’assemblée liturgique le livre parle de la beatitude de celui qui lit et ceux qui entendent les paroles de la prophétie. Premièrement c’est le Christ qui parle aux chrétiens. Dans la première description du Fils de l’homme Jean note qu’il y a un glaive acéré à double traochant qui lui sort de la bouche. Avec ce glaive le Christ, Chef de l’Eglise la purifie et la prépare à la lecture du sens de son histoire. Dans cette lecture c’est lui-même qui est guide par sa présence au millieu de l’Eglise. Par cette présence les avènements de l’historire parlent eux-mêmes et peuvent être compris par la communauté des disciples du Christ. Finalement le même glaive à deux tranchants sera l’instrument de son jugement final. Le Christ qui porte le nom la Parole de Dieu est présenté comme celui qui acheve son suvre de la Parole engagée dans l’histoire de l’homme. Son jugement est consideré non seulement comme l’acomplissement des paroles de Dieu mais aussi comme le point final de son engagement dans les avènements de l’histoire de l’homme et du monde.

In seiner wörtlichen Bedeutung hat das Gebot „töte nicht” eine genaue Bedeutung, es bezieht sich auf eine bestimmte Kategorie von Tötungen. Denn es betrifft nämlich die Tötung eines anderen Menschen, auf eine illegale Weise, aus privaten Beweggründen; diese Tötung lässt den Willen einer Gemeinschaft ausser Acht und veletzt ihr Gut. In der weiteren Bedeutung kann dieses Gebot generell als „Lebensschutz” verstanden werden. In dieser zweiten Bedeutung ist alles, was indirekt oder direkt die Güte des menschlichen Lebens trifft, eine Verletzung dieses Gebotes.

The first part of the article deals with four different understandingsof Hosea 6:6 in the context of this prophetic book: (1) repudiation of thecult as such, (2) the rejecting of a specific kind of cult, (3) the priority ofethics over the cult, and (4) the symbiosis of cult and ethics, i.e. that anauthentic cult interweaves ethical values and proper ritual conduct. Theauthor concludes that the fourth interpretation best fits the message of theBook of Hosea. The second part of the article deals with the problem of thetextual Vorlage which would have been used by Matthew. It seems that hequoted from the Hebrew text, being faithful to a then-current hermeneuticalrule by which each part of a biblical parallelism was interpreted separately,based on the belief that every single line carried equal weight and conveyeda new truth or a new law. The Matthean relecture of Hosea 6:6, the focus ofthe third part, is presented from two perspectives, namely synchronic anddiachronic. In the synchronic presentation the main point of concern is thecontribution of the quotes in 9:13 and 12:7 to understanding the Mattheanpericopes. Finally, the diachronic reading deals with the Matthean use ofHosea 6:6 within the context of the Matthean community and of its dialoguewith the Rabbinic Judaism of the day.
