This study focuses on the parchments held in the collection of the Diocesan Archives in Zielona Góra. Thanks to the funds provided by the Chief Director of the State Archives in Warsaw, the support of the Archive’s Director, Beata Grelewicz, and the painstaking conservation work by Joanna Ogińska and Dominika Przybysz from the State Archives in Zielona Góra, the aforementioned documents have been given a new lease of life. They were cleaned, repaired, and secured against further deterioration. The documents have been digitized and made available at the National Digital Archives in Warsaw. Following conservation, these three parchments found their way into the scholarly circulation.

Tematem opracowania są pergaminy znajdujące się w zasobie Archiwum Diecezjalnego w Zielonej Górze. Dzięki uzyskanemu funduszowi od Naczelnego Dyrektora Archiwów Państwowych w Warszawie, uprzejmości Pani dyrektor Beaty Grelewicz i żmudnej pracy konserwatorskiej pań: Joanny Ogińskiej i Dominiki Przybysz z Archiwum Państwowego w Zielonej Górze wyżej wymienione dokumenty otrzymały nowe życie, czyli zostały oczyszczone, naprawione i zabezpieczone przed zniszczeniem. Dokumenty zdigitalizowano i upubliczniono w Narodowym Archiwum Cyfrowym w Warszawie. Po konserwacji te trzy pergaminy znalazły się w obiegu naukowym.

The authors of this paper present the methodology used to retroconvert the State Archive in Zielona Góra. In the introduction, they present their previous experiences with registering finding aids, e.g. the implementation of new unit descriptions in the IZA database. However, it was not until the “Finding aids list” that the scale of the problem was revealed – including the number of units with no digital equivalents and the type and forms of registering finding aids. The authors put an emphasis on the role of IT in entering data into the system using scanners, OCR software and Excel spreadsheets. They also outline the division of labour, team and method selection criteria and the consequences of the changes for the entire archive. In addition, they present the means of processing example fonds, as well as methods used to overcome the challenges encountered during the retroconversion process. According to the article’s concluding statements, further teamwork is still necessary.
