At the age of dynamically changing market conditions, the speed of information flow and decision-making is one of the key factors affecting the competitiveness of enterprises. The decision-making process can be effectively assisted by simulation tools that allow multi-criteria analysis of the potential benefits or risks of the planned activities. The stage immediately preceding the use of simulation tools is modeling process, without which there is no way to effectively monitor and control the realized activities. The research problem defined by the authors is the way to carry out an assessment of the production process efficiency, taking into account the multidimensional analysis of the interdependencies within the process as well as the relationships with other processes that affect the continuity of the material flow. The aim of this paper is to present the concept of an evaluation model for the production process efficiency, as a proposal to minimize the identified research gaps in the fragmented definition of efficiency issues. This article focuses on the problem of modeling the evaluation process of production efficiency in iGrafx Process 2011 for Six Sigma, using the BPMN. The choice of this standard was determined by the representativeness of the modeling of processes and operating systems as well as the universal character, which allows the use of applications for other standards and notations. The result of the research conducted by the authors is a model that is conceptually prepared for verification, both in business practice as well as in the simulation procedure.

In this paper the authors present an analysis of the transport process in a selected enterprise. The process map was prepared in accordance with the BPMN 2.0 standard, currently functioning in the firm (map AS IS) and as a target (map TO BE). Then, to simulate the flow of transport orders, we will built analytical models for the mapped processes and introduced parameters for all activities and process events. The effect of changes examined by values of key performance indicators (KPIs) for the mean time order processing and human resources burden in the original model and the target which included the TMS class system implementations.

Modern information management systems are often driven by workflow engines, which require an accurate, detailed, and structured process description. Instead of theoretical modelling of such processes we propose a technique which can be a connection between traditional management (organisational structure) and business process management approach. In our work we present a case study where the automatic process mining techniques are applied to administrative processes in an environment of event logs recorded by DMS. We use event log data to discover and describe the process map of the organisation and to model structured process descriptions. Our approach allows for the extraction of models based on facts and it is a direct connection between the process model and raw data generated by the organisation. Such scenario increases consistency between the mapped model and the reality of the organisation.

This paper addresses issues related to the modelling of business processes. Firstly, we describe business processes and process management concepts, especially process modelling. Secondly, the essence of process modelling using BPMN notation is presented. Thirdly, in the empirical part of the paper, we propound an universal model of business processes for online shops. The paper concludes with a discussion of research findings and future works.

The growing number of the EU regulations imposes additional administrative burdens on Polish entrepreneurs. However, in Poland no thorough analyses concerning the costs of the burdens resulting from the implementation of such regulations are conducted. Moreover, during the law-making process the benefits of implementing e-services are not assessed either. The aim of the conducted research was to develop a method permitting the assessment of implementing e-services in the course of law-making. The proposed method is based on the process analysis supported by BPMN. The method permits to precisely assess the benefits of digitalization of public services following from the EU regulations, due to application of modeling and simulation analysis, which allows for comparing different versions of implementation of the EU regulations. Presented method has been used in the process of applying for the European account preservation order. The research conducted has proved that digitalization of the order permits the duration of a process to be cut by more than a half compared to traditional (paper) way of completing the procedure. Moreover, it was confirmed that completing procedures electronically is less expensive than traditional way of proceeding. Application of the proposed method allowed for collecting the precise data, which enabled the comparison of the costs of burdens in different variants of EU regulations implementation.

Enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems are often used by companies to automate and enhance their business processes. The capabilities of ERP systems can be described by best-practice reference models. The purpose of the article is to demonstrate the business process renovation approach with the use of reference models. Although the use of reference models brings many positive effects for business, they are still rarely used in Slovenian small and medium-sized companies. The reasons for this may be found in the reference models themselves as well as in project implementation methodologies. In the article a reference model based on Microsoft Dynamics NAV is suggested. The reference model is designed using upgraded BPMN notation with additional business objects, which help to describe the models in more detail.

The current paper is aimed at bridging the gap between the contribution of academia and practice in respect of data specifications in regard to the implementation of analytical models in business process engines in the subsequent stages of increasing process maturity of business organization. The issues of identifying structural relationships between documents, building structural data- and documents model within the organization as well as managing complexity of such a model remain intentionally outside the scope of Business Process Model and Notation (BPMN). Thus, the effectiveness of achieving the level of executable business processes is largely dependent on the proper selection and introduction of notations that are complementary to the process dynamics modeling standard. Within the paper a set of potential complementary techniques, including proprietary UML profile for BPMN data modeling (BPMNDoc), is proposed. Authors conduct a comparative analysis of the techniques as well as provide an exemplification and data specifications based on a case study of site acceptance process in a telecommunications company.

W kolejnych częściach artykułu zawarto opisy trzech metodyk – obiektowej, strukturalnej i BPMN. W zakończeniu porównano i oceniono przydatność poszczególnych metodyk.

The author made a short review of some software engineering methodologies. Evaluation of strengths, weaknesses, and limitations of these methodologies is made in this paper. The author brings forward new perspectives in this area: the BPMN (Business Process Modelling Notation) methodology. In point 2, there are shown some reasons for creating particular tools in the software engineering area of interest. Points 3-5 contain a short description of three of them: structured approach, object approach and BPMN. In the conclusion part, the author made comparisons and evaluated usefulness of particular methodologies.

In this paper, knowledge workers are assumed to actively realize knowledge management tasks. They are involved in the gathering, analysis, storage and dissemination of knowledge in a way that is focused on its improvement. Therefore main goal is to present system architecture models for knowledge management in information science domain. In that domain, Design Science Research (DSR) is discussed as being very useful and adopted in this paper for knowledge management. The author applied the ArchiMate modelling language and supplemented it with the process approach and Business Process Model & Notation (BPMN) for knowledge management process presentation, as well as by the case management approach and Case Management Model & Notation (CMMN). These notations are consistent and complementary, although they have different objectives of usage.
