In 2011, with the death of three eminent representatives of the New American Cinema: Jordan Belson, George Kuchar (who incidentally died the same day) and Robert Breer, one is observing the fading away of the American underground film phenomenon. The phenomenon of this movement lay in its intimate, modest manner, that often just took the form of personal notes and diaries, and yet was able to surround itself with its own audience, inspire a large body of literature about itself, and inspire such artists as David Lynch, John Waters or Gus Van Sant.
