The library of the Mogiła abbey is the most valuable monastic library in Poland. Over the centuries, thanks to the excellent education and bibliophylic passion of the Mogiła abbots, numerous incunabula and later works were gathered here, particularly works in the areas of religion, history and politics.From the XII to the XVII century the library was utilized as a scientific workshop for many scholars from Mogiła among whom were many lecturers in the Cracow Academy as well as scholars of international reputation, for instance, James from Paradyż. Inventory preserved from 1664 and 1668 reveal that the monastery library held less than one thousand works with the vast, majority by excellent authors and very precious, with the competence acquired by the cistercians, among them especially by John Taczel, Erazma Ciołek, Marcin Białobrzeski and Paul Piasecki. During the century as the consequence of natural disasters, wars and the collection passion of the clerical and secular dignitaries in the XVIII century, its collection was gravely reduced but still qualifies as one of the most significant and well-equipped monastic libraries in Poland.

Współczesne przemiany, spowodowane rozwojem informatyki, nowych technologii informacyjnych i mediów, stały się wyzwaniem dla biblioteki jako instytucji kultury, przyczyniając się w dużym stopniu do zmiany modelu biblioteki oraz wyznaczenia nowych ról dla profesji bibliotekarza. Obecnie biblioteki wpisują się intensywnie w system szeroko rozumianej komunikacji społecznej i przechodzą wyraźne przemiany funkcjonalne, istotne wydaje się zatem zbadanie, w jakim zakresie w tych nowych warunkach rozwoju technologii informacyjnych i praktyk komunikacyjnych realizowana może być misja biblioteki publicznej. W artykule opisano to zagadnienie w odniesieniu do doświadczeń Biblioteki Miejskiej w Puławach, będącej miejscem pracy i zdobywania nowych doświadczeń zawodowych autorki, która poprzez analizę zadań i wyzwań, z którymi zmagała się jej macierzysta placówka w ostatnich latach, stara się wskazać, jak poszerzył się zakres funkcji i działań stawianych przed bibliotekami publicznymi w Polsce.

W artykule przedstawiono wybrane aktualne problemy związane z nor-malizacją i standaryzacją w zakresie informacji i dokumentacji. Analizie poddane zostały zagadnienia warunkujące efektywność działalności normalizacyjnej i wska-zywane jako problematyczne w środowisku polskich pracowników ośrodków in-formacji: spadek intensywności prac nad wprowadzaniem norm międzynarodowych i powoływaniem norm własnych oraz wycofywanie dotychczas wykorzystywanych; kosztowność publikacji i pozyskiwania norm; problemy metodologiczne towarzyszą-ce zwłaszcza tłumaczeniu norm obcych i utrzymaniu ich odpowiedniego poziomu; konieczność zachowania semantycznej spójności w zakresie stosowanych terminów i języka branżowego; nadmierna formalizacja. Jako metodę koordynacji prac stan-daryzacyjnych w Polsce (obejmujących standardy de facto, w odróżnieniu od norm de iure) zaproponowano powołanie stowarzyszenia skupiającego osoby i instytucje zainteresowane korzystaniem ze standardów tego zakresu. Istotna będzie komple-mentarna współpraca z Komitetem 242 ds. Informacji i Dokumentacji PKN. Jedno-cześnie stowarzyszenie powinno współdziałać z organizacjami międzynarodowymi o podobnym profilu.

A proposal for a Polish model of standardizing and normalizing procedures in the field of information and documentationAbstract: The article presents selected, current problems concerning normaliza-tion and standardization in the field of information and documentation. The author analyzes issues affecting the effectiveness of normalizing procedures and indicated as problematic by the employees of Polish information centers. These include: the decrease in the intensity of introducing international norms and establishing national norms, accompanied by the withdrawal of the previous norms; the cost of publi-cation and acquisition of the norms; the methodological issues accompanying the translation of foreign-language norms and the faithfulness of translation, including the necessity to maintain semantic coherence with regard to the terms and specialist language used; excessive formalization. To coordinate the standardizing practices in Poland (which include the de facto standards, as opposed to the de iure norms), it was proposed to establish a society comprised of people and institutions interested in utilizing those standards. This society should cooperate in particular with Committee 242 on Information and Documentation at the Polish Committee for Standardization. At the same time, the society should establish cooperation with other international agencies with a similar profile.

Blisko sześćdziesięcioletni dorobek wydawniczy Wojewódzkiej Biblioteki Publicznej w Opolu charakteryzuje się dużą wszechstronnością zarówno pod względem formy publikacji, jak i tematyki. Obejmuje publikacje bibliograficzne, informacyjne, poradnikowe, szkoleniowe, drukowane katalogi zbiorów oraz wydawnictwa towarzyszące wystawom, konferencjom i seminariom. Wiele książek wydanych przez opolską książnicę rejestruje aktualne wydarzenia społeczne, kulturalne, w szczególności literackie Opolszczyzny, a także przybliża wiedzę o historii regionu w związku z ogłaszaniem reprintów rzadkich druków śląskich. W artykule przedstawiono ową różnorodność działalności wydawniczej WBP w Opolu, podkreślając znaczenie publikowanych wydawnictw dla regionu opolskiego dawniej i dziś oraz prezentując konkretne tytuły wydawnicze zwarte i ciągłe.

The publishing output of the Voivodeship Public Library in Opole of almost sixty years is characterised by considerable versatility both as far as the form of the publications and their subject matter is concerned. It embraces bibliographical, informative, advice-related, training-oriented publications, printed catalogues of collections and publications which accompany exhibitions, conferences and seminars. Many of the books which were published by the Opole-based publisher register current social, cultural, and in particular literary events of the Opole region. The publisher familiarises the reader with the history of the region by republishing rare Silesiana. The purpose of the article is to present the variety of the publishing activities of the WBP in Opole, the significance of the publications for the Opole region in earlier and in recent times by making reference to specific serial and non-serial publications.
