The author analyzes the scientific achievements and programme development of the past twenty issues of the 'Horizons of Education', i.e. 'authentic educating of contemporary man to complete humanity'. In order to justify these assumptions, two recent anthropological doctrines are presented, namely individualism and collectivism. These are complemented with the crisis of 'a sad man'. Finally, the author reaches the conclusion that the programme principles formulated by the Editorial Team are realized via the assumptions of the transcendent and horizontal anthropology realized with the use of the analytical method.

The article informs about results of intention to find out the relationships between individualism and non-clinical narcissism. Pursuing this intention, the author researched a representative sample of Czech population (n=1081) using the scales of individualism and collectivism (INDCOL, Singelis, Triandis) and narcissism (Bartos). INDCOL scale includes in total four sub-dimensions – orientation on cooperativeness, duty, competitiveness and uniqueness. The forth mentioned dimension is not understood by Czech population uniformly, that is why the author extended the four dimensional typology by the factor of independence. All five factors of individualism and collectivism together explain 50% of the variance, Chronbach's 'a' (alpha) = 0,77. The basis of this theoretical conception INDCOL was supported by the statistic method of multidimensional scaling. As a limitation of reached model could be seen its higher rate of deformation (Stress=0,103) and lower correlation between the original and transformed distances (RSQ=0,939). Czech population is in its psycho-social setting markedly orientated to collectives. For Czechs is also more characteristic orientation on equalitarianism, than respecting of inequality. Collectivistic orientated people are represented more often by older people and by people with lower living standards. On the contrary individualistically orientated people are more often younger, people with higher education and people economically well situated. As the research proves, the individualism often concurs with non-clinical narcissism in the population. The non-clinical narcissism correlates mostly with competitiveness.

The following publication: Tadeusz Slipko's Polemics with the Materialist Ideology presents an outstanding Polish ethicist, the author of Zarys etyki ogolnej i szczegolowej (Eng. An Outline of General and Detailed Ethics). Presenting his own perspective on Christian ethics, he belongs to those who undertake polemics with the materialist ideology on the basis of philosophy. The author reveals here his critical references to the ideas of Hegel or Marx, probably made so as to express - through a kind of acceptance of the phenomena observed and analysed by Marxism - a critical stand both when it comes to the assumptions of materialism and atheism as well as the conclusions at which the thinkers of this orientation arrive. Professor Slipko is absolutely critical of the ideological basis of materialist philosophy, seeking in this reductionism attempts to bring the man-person to some dependent being, social being, strictly determined by the absolute bio-economic laws of nature. Slipko, in the name of Thomistic realism, perceives man as the basis of 'fundamental resolutions', and that is on the basis of ontology, anthropology as well as detailed personal ethics. Within social ethics, supported with Thomistic anthropology, he sums up his principal theses and assumptions with reference to the conception of man. It is not the unnecessary reminding of the facts already known, but rather realizing the close relationship between categories characterizing human being such as action, choice, purpose - which, in turn, determine the course of our personal life. And this, in turn, determines human being, nature and essence.
